August 2nd - Mets 4, Royals 2 - 11 innings

August 2nd

Friday night back home at Citi Field, Eric Young Jr hit his first home run as a Met with one on in the bottom of the 11th inning….the Mets BEAT the Royals 4-2. For the Mets, it was their third walk off homer of the year.  The win snaps the Royals 9 game winning streak. It was Dillon Gee vs. Wade Davis to start if off.  Davis gave up a 2 run homer to  David Wright, his 16th in the bottom of the first.  Gee was terrific. He went 7 allowed just 3 hits 1 run (earned) he walked 2 and struck out 4. Scott Rice relieved a tiring Gee in the top of the 8th inning and got into a 1st and 3rd jam.  LaTroy Hawkins came in and preserved the lead although he did allow the Royals to cut the lead to 2-1 when Lorenzo Cain scored on a Salvador Perez fielder’s choice grounder to third. With Bobby Parnell not available David Aardsma got the call to pitch the 9th. The one time Seattle closer showed he was a bit rusty blowing the save opportunity. Aardsma found him himself in a bases loaded 1 out jam and surrendered a sac fly to Lorenzo Cain to tie the game at 2.  Returning Met Pedro Feliciano came on and dispatched the Royals to end the threat and send the game into extras.  Saturday’s listed starter Carlos Torres was called upon to pitch in the extra frames. Torres gets the win going 2 scoreless innings He’s now 2-2. Gee winds up with a no decision despite pitching great.  Offensively  Young had the big blow, Ike Davis went 3 for 3 on the night with a walk, Young, Omar Quintanilla and David Wright each had 2 hits. Wright who has been playing with a tight hamstring, came up limping badly legging out a hit in the bottom of the 10th. He was replaced by Josh Satin. No word on how badly he’s injured. With the Win the Mets now have a record of 49-58 and improve to 22-30 at home.  Saturday afternoon it’s game two.  Carlos Torres was set to start, right now the Met start is TBA. Former Met Bruce Chen (4-0  2.09) goes for KC.  https://www.facebook.com/MetsForum
