Mets Minor League Report – August 24

MML Player of the Day - Aug. 24:    Brooklyn SP Robert Gsellman       

Las Vegas (76-57) edges Fresno (63-71) 2-1.

 

Matt Fox (W, 7-4) was effective: 7.0 IP, R, 6 H, 0 BB, 9 K.

Robert Carson pitched the 8th (H) and Greg Burke (S, 5) pitched the 9th (H, 2 K)

 

Zach Lutz: 2-4, 2B, RBI.

Brian Bixler: 1-2, 2B, BB, R.

 

Binghamton (82-51) annihilates Akron  (63-69) 10-2.

Darin Gorski (W, 5-1) pitches a gem, gets nicked for 2 runs in the 8th inning after pitchimg 7.0 scoreless, 1 hit innings. Gorski’s final line: 7.2 IP, 2 R, 3 H, 2 BB, 7 K.

Hamilton Bennett is perfect for 1.1 innings with 1 K to close out the game.

 

Cory Vaughn: 2-5, 3 RBI, 2 R.

Xorge Carrillo: 2-4, BB, 3 RBI, R.

Josh Rodriguez: 2-5, 3B, RBI, R.

 

Ft Myers (73-52) & St Lucie (66-57) postponed (rain).

 

West Virginia (75-56) tops Savannah (71-56)  6-3 in the early game.

Beck Wheeler: (L, 1-6) came in to get 2 outs with the game tied in the 8th inning, which he did, but then can only get 1 out in the 9th while giving up 3 runs for the loss: 1.0 IP, 3 R, 3 H, 2 BB, 3 K.

 

Albert Cordero: 1-3, RBI, R.

Brandon Nimmo: 1-2, 2 BB. Nimmo’s good eye at the plate has his OBP above .400, but he has been striking out way too much.

 

Savannah (72-56)  turns the tables, beats West Virginia (75-57) 6-1.

Steven Matz, (W, 5-6) in fine form: 5.1 IP, R, 4 H, 2 BB, 7 K.

Paul Sewald (S, 7) came in with 1 out in the 6th, so the save was still in order: 1.2 IP, 0 R, H, BB, 2 K,

 

Brandon Nimmo: 1-3, 2B, BB, 2 RBI.

 

Brooklyn (33-31) is victorious over Vermont (29-35) 2-0.

Robert Gsellman (W, 3-2) tosses 8.0 outstanding innings: 0 R, 2 H, BB, 13 K. The 20 yr old Gsellman seems to have found his level  at Class A - SS Brooklyn. With a 1.62 ERA , he has not allowed an earned run in his last 3 games, 20.0 innings.

Johnny Magliozzi: (S, 7) 1.0 IP, H, 0 BB, K

 

L.J. Mazzilli: 1-3, HR, BB, 2 RBI, R.

Gavin Cecchini: 1-2, 2 BB, R.

 

Bluefield (40-21) routs Kingsport (35-26) 6-1.

Not the best outing for Persio Reyes: (L, 4-5) 4.2 IP, 6 R, 5 H, 3 BB, 8 K.

Three K-Mets pitchers hold the Blue Jays without a run for the final 3.1 innings, capped off by a perfect 8th by Ricardo Jacquez.  The little (5’9” - 160 lb.) 20 yr old Jacquez is quietly making some noise in his first pro season, with a 0.49 ERA and 0.65 WHIP with 14.24 K/9  in 14 appearances - 18.1 innings.

 

Champ Stuart: 1-3, 2B, BB.

Pedro Perez: 1-3, 2B, BB, R.

 

GCL Nationals (47-9) nick GCL Mets (18-38) 2-0.

Yoryi Nuez (L, 2-2) pitches well but gets no run support: 6.0 IP, 2 R, 4 H, 2 BB, 9 K.

Waldo Rodriguez: 2.0 IP, 0 R, H, 0 BB, 5 K.

 

Wuilmer Becerra: 1-2.

Dominick Smith: 1-4.

 

DSL Mets1 (21-50) top DSL Rojos (18-53) 6-4.

The third Mets pitcher, Gregorix Estevez, (W, 3-1) goes 2.0 innings: 0 R, H, 0 BB, 3 K. He is followed by Claudio Merilan, who pitched a perfect 8th with 1 K, and Jorge Cespedes (S, 1) pitching a perfect 9th for his first save.

 

Luis Cristomo: 2-4, 2 RBI.

Luis Montero: 1-4: 2 RBI, R.

 

DSL Mets2 (45-26) shut out DSL Marlins (26-45) 2-0.

Six Mets pitchers participated in the shutout. The 2nd of the 6, Randi Montero, (W, 2-2) got the W despite allowing 3 H and 2 BB in his 2.0 IP.

Nabil Crismat, (S, 8) pitching the 9th inning, was effective as usual, lowering his ERA  to 1.33. (H, K)

 

Hengelbert Rojas: 1-3, RBI.
