The Pirates have acquired outfielder
Marlon Byrd and catcher
John Buck from the Mets, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York (
on Twitter).
With their NL Central lead down to a half-game, the
Pirates have bolstered their roster by acquiring catcher
John Buck and outfielder
Marlon Byrd from the
Mets. Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com has confirmed the trade. The Mets will receive minor league shortstop Dilson Herrera and a player to be named later in return.
This is actually a very good trade for the club.....Herrera is an interesting prospect.
ReplyDeleteLooks like an infielder with some pop that could project to be a 2b in the future. Good to get something for those two guys.
ReplyDeleteAnd I think there is a Byrd tee shirt night at Citi field tonight.
Dilson Herrera is the Pirates #11th rated prospect and considered the 9th best 2B prospect in all of baseball. Depending upon the PTBNL In this deal, this could end up being a decent haul for 2 guys that aren't signed for next year.

My guess for the PTBNL is either Wily Garcia or Clay Holmes since they are currently not on the 40 man roster and therefore don't need to clear waivers. Just a guess on those guys, no inside knowledge.
Nice deal....it's always nice to get something for nothing.
ReplyDeleteI'll save my comments until the morning report...
ReplyDeleteBuck to the Bucs
ReplyDeleteAny chatter on the PTBNL?
ReplyDeleteThe GM of the Bucs said that Mets fans will be very happy with the PTBNL... my guess is either d'Arnaud, Pimentel or Sands
ReplyDeletemy money would be on Sands
It has to be someone on the 40-man, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteGM Neil Hutchingson of Pirates confirms it is someone on the 40-man
