LAST GAME: The Binghamton Mets mustered just two hits and fell to the Trenton Thunder, 2-1, in game two of the EDCS on Thursday night. The B-Mets threatened early against Mikey O’Brien but couldn’t cash in against the righty. They stranded two men on base in each of the first three innings, and failed to score with five walks. Trenton scored first in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly from Zoilo Almonte. Binghamton responded with their only run in the fifth. Josh Rodriguez bashed a solo home run over the left-field wall to tie the game at 1. Trenton broke the tie in the bottom of the seventh against Darin Gorski. Mason Williams scored from first base on an RBI double by Ali Castillo. O’Brien finished with two perfect innings. Zach Nuding earned the win with two scoreless frames, and Tommy Kahnle worked around a one-out walk to collect his first postseason save. Binghamton now trails in the ELDS , 2-0.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Logan Verrett makes his 25th start of the season for the B-Mets and his fourth against the Thunder. Logan finished the regular season with a 12-6 record, and a 4.25 ERA. Against Trenton he went 1-2 with a 2.66 ERA. His 12 wins ties him for the most in the Eastern League. He leads the league with a 1.14 WHIP, but has given up 21 home runs which ties him for the second-most. In 146.0 innings, Verrett has 132 strikeouts and only 31 walks. Opponents hit .249 against the righty in his first season at the Double-A level. Logan has won each of his last three decisions, and the B-Mets have won each of his last five starts. The Mets drafted him in the third round of the 2011 draft out of Baylor University.
TRENTON STARTER: RHP Shane Greene makes his 14th start of the season for the Thunder and second against the B-Mets. Greene went 8-4 with a 3.18 ERA in the regular season with Trenton. WIN OR GO HOME: Binghamton has lost the first two games of the postseason for the second time in franchise history. In 2004, the B-Mets fell behind 0-2 and ended up losing the series in four games. The B-Mets are 17-18 in postseason play, and have lost four consecutive postseason series.
CLOSE CALLS: Each of the first two postseason games have been decided by one run. In the regular season, the B-Mets went 27-18 in one-run contests.
