September 6th - Indians 8, Mets 1

Sept 6thFriday night in Cleveland, Former Met cast-a-way Scott Kazmir came back to haunt the Mets big time as the Indians beat the Mets 8-1. Kazmir had his best outing in years cruising to his 8th win going 6 shut out innings allowing just 4 hits and striking out 12. The Mets scored their only run in the top of the 7th on a solo homer by Justin Turner his first on the year. Zach Wheeler started for the Mets and had a rocky outing, battling his control giving up single runs in the 1st, 2nd, 5th innings. Wheeler went 5, he allowed 5 hits 3 runs (2 earned ) he walked 5 and struck out 3. Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the 8th Tim Byrdak gave up the big blow when Nick Swisher connected for a grand slam, his 16th home run on the year to formally make it a blow out. The Mets scratched out 7 hits, Juan Lagares led the way with 2 hits for the Met offense. Wheeler gets the loss he falls to 7-4, Kazmir improves to 8-7. The loss drops the Mets to 63-76 overall and 35-38 on the road. Saturday evening it’s game two of the series. Jon Niese (6-6 3.66) who’s been brilliant since coming off the DL looks for his 7th win.
