Saturday afternoon in the first game of a double dip at Citi Field, Carlos Torres struck out a career high 8, but Henderson Alvarez blanked the Mets for 7 strong as the Marlins win the opener 3-0. Torres had his strikeout pitch going, but still fell behind in the 4th inning on a bloop rbi single to left center by Logan Morrison. In the 6th, Donovan Solano, who had been hit twice in the game by Torres got sweet revenge launching his 3rd homer of the season to the right of the Party City Deck. In a very strange play in the 8th inning, with runners on 1st and 3rd with 1 out. Logan Morrison tried to call time after Frank Francisco started his delivery, the request was denied and Morrison regrouped and hit a liner off Francisco’s pitching wrist…the ball deflected to Duda and he got the out at first while the 3rd run scored. Francisco left the game and David Aardsma finished the inning. The Met offense continues to sputter. On the day the Mets could only manage 4 hits, singles by Lucas Duda and Travis d’Arnaud and a single and a doube by Matt Den Dekker. Torres went 6, he allowed only 3 hits, 2 runs (both earned) he walked two and struck out that career high 8. He’s the hard luck loser falling to 3-5 on the season. Alvarez gets the win, he’s now 4-4. With the loss the Mets officially clinch a losing season as they fall to 65-82 on the year, their home record slips to 29-43. Game two will feature Daisuke Matsuzaka (0-3 8.00) facing Jacob Turner (3-6 3.43) https://www.facebook.com/MetsForum
The Mets seem intent on securing a protected pick. This game only reinforces the dire need for offense this off season.
ReplyDeleteSounds good secure a top 10 protected pick.

some rumbling out there tonight about Cargo to Mets...
ReplyDeleteSeems to me if they want positional players we don't match, unless there is a 3rd team involved? Maybe Oakland?
ReplyDeleteThe rumor did say they wanted position players in return. It also said they would consider moving Tulo as well as CarGo. Helton is retiring after the season. Do you think they might respond to an offer of:
ReplyDeleteDavis, Duda or Murphy,
Niese, Gee or Mejia,
Tejada or Turner,
Flores,
Montero,
den Dekker, Brown or Nieuwenhuis,
Plus 1 or 2 lower level prospects
For Gonzalez and Tulowitzki?
