Well,
it’s only Game 2 but Mets fans are learning early that, one, there isn’t enough
viable talent on this team, and two, it gets even worse if what talent you have
gets injured.
This
0-2 start could just be the beginning and, looking at the competition coming up
for the next 18 games, there’s a good chance the Mets could be having meetings
early regarding the chances of being respectful in 2014 (forget the 90 wins or
playoffs).
A
few things early:
1. Gonzalez Germen does not have a complete game. He’s
not a major league middle reliever. Period.
2. The
Mets need another young bat in the lineup that can hopefully produce while
Granderson and d’Arnaud come out of their opening series slump… promote either Matt den Dekker or Kirk
Nieuwenhuis for the time that Chris Young
misses due to injuries. Get Cory Vaughn on a
plane to Vegas to fill that slot and, while you’re at it, release Bobby Abreu. Stop with this old man silliness. I don’t
know what either of these two guys have left in the tank, but give one of them
a chance to prove it while Young heals.
3. Or,
if you really have a set, promote Cesar Puello now
to Queens.
We
can discuss relief pitching all day, but the bottom line is you’re not going to
win many games if you don’t get hits.
Germen looked kinda dominant, retiring 6 straight after after giving up that run......................
ReplyDeleteAnd Granderson only struck out twice, after 3Ks in first game. Does that count as progress..........
Oh, and if Terry Collins even tries to bench Lagares, if and when CY is healthy, I quit......
Puello would be nice, but Campbell more sensible for now, as a righty platoon for Curtis against lefties. Why wait, I'll just say it now and get it out of the way. The dire view requires ruthless action.

ReplyDeleteMack,
When June rolls around and the Mets are competing against Minnesota, Both Chicago teams and Houston for the top pick for 2015 does that change your thinking on who you would want at #10 this year?

ReplyDeleteAll we have is opinions here and my on Gonzalez is that he simply has an incomplete game. He's okay, but okay isn't what the Mets needs in this situation.

I forgot about Campbell... good choice.

Well, I believe we're a lock for a #10 or below again... no, I want someone in 2014 hat would get to the majors as quick as possible... like Vanderbilt's Tyler Beede or NC State's Trea Turner
I'm also actually concerned about the history and success of this blog. Readers and writers would stick around to keep talking about this shit.
ReplyDeleteDont overreact on curtis. We all know he will never win batting titles. And he isnt the only one in the majors whos avg. is at .000. Just look at Sorriano or Holliday
