May 20th 2014 -- Dodgers 9, Mets 4

Tuesday night at Citi Field the Dodgers scored 4 runs in the top of the 5th inning knocking Rafael Montero out of the box as the Dodgers beat the Mets 9-4.  The game was tied at 1 going to the top of the 5th. Montero was not sharp on the night and it unraveled for him in the inning as Adrian Gonzalez hit a 2 run homer (11) and Carl Crawford and Jose Uribe added RBI singles to finish the inning and Montero. In the 6th the Hanley Ramirez added an RBI single off Carlos Torres to make it 6-1, then the Mets staged the beginning of a comeback.  The Mets took Josh Beckett deep in the bottom of the 6th on a solo homer by Curtis Granderson (6) and then Lucas Duda hit a 2 run homer (5) and it was a 6-4 game.  In the top of the 9th the Dodgers put the nail in the coffin scoring three times off Jose Valverde and Josh Edgin to cap the blow out.  Montero falls to 0-2, he went 4 1/3 innings he allowed 7 hits, 5 runs (all earned) walking 4 and striking out 4.  The only effective pitcher out of the bullpen for the Mets was Diasuke Matsusaka who went 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Josh Beckett gave up 4 runs in 5 innings and gets the win he’s now 2-1. Offensively for the Mets Granderson led the 11 hit attack going 3 for 5 with the homer and double , three runs scored and the RBI. The Dodgers clubbed 13 hits. Yasiel Puig and Gonzalez each had 3 hits piece.  The Mets fall to 20-24 on the season and only 9 and 13 at Citi Field. Wednesday night it’s game two of the series; Hyun-Jin Ryu (3-2  3.00) goes for LA, Jacob deGrom (0-1  1.29) goes for the Mets
