MMLR Player of the Day: St. Lucie RHSP Michael Fulmer


Las Vegas (32-13) nips Fresno (22-23) 3-2.

 
Giancarlo Alverado keeps his team in the game: 5.0 IP, 2 R, 7 H, 3 BB, 6 K.
And then the bull pen took over.
Buddy Carlyle: (W, 1-0) 1.0 IP, perfection, striking out the side.
Zack Thornton: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 2 H, KI.
Vic Black: (S, 7) 1.0 IP, BB, K.

Andrew Brown does it again: 1-3, HR, BB, RBI, R. (Brown with his 9th HR in only 24 games, 97 AB.)
Matt den Dekker: 1-3, 2B, 2 RBI. (dD is getting it in gear, hitting .400, slugging .800, in his last 10 games. His OPS is 1.257 in that stretch.)

 

 
Portland (28-15) edges Binghamton (24-18) 2-1.

Darin Gorski (L, 3-2) did not deserve this loss: 5.0 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 H, (HR) BB, 6 K.
Jon Velasquez: 2.0 IP, H, 2 K.
Adam Kolarek: 1.0 IP, 2 H, K.

Six hits (1 double) spread among six different players..

 

St. Lucie (26-19) clobbers Clearwater (9-33) 10-3.

Michael Fulmer (W, 2-3) tosses a gem: 7.0 IP, R, 5 H, 2 BB, 7 K.
Jake Kuebler: 1.2 IP, 2 R, 2 H, 3 BB, 3 K.
Julian Hilario got the 1 out he was asked to get via the strikeout.

Brandon Nimmo: 1-2, 3 BB, 2 R. (We all know Nimmo is an on base machine. His OBP is now .471)
T.J. Rivera: 1-4, BB, 2 RBI, 2 R.
Gilbert Gomez: 1-3, HR, 2 BB, 3 RBI, 2 R.
Cole Frenzel: 3-4, 2B, 3 RBI, R.

 

Savannah (30-14) clips Charleston (23-21) 2-1 .

Ricky Knapp: 6.0 IP, R, 7 H, 0 BB, 5 K.
Dario Alvarez: (W, 3-0) 2.0 IP, 0 R, H, 3 K. (With his 0.33 ERA, Alvarez is having quite a year for himself.)
Robert Coles (S, 9) pitched a perfect 9th. (K)

Jeff McNeil, 2-4, R.
L.J. Mazzilli: 1-4, 2B, RBI, R.
Dominick Smith: 2-3, BB, RBI.
Champ Stuart: 2-2, BB. (Stuart was caught stealing and picked off, erasing him 2 of the 3 times he got himself on base.)

  1. I am puzzled why Nimmo walks so much. Teams must pitch around him, but he lacks extra base punch. But .471 OBP is awesome. Look up Brown's minor league #'s for the past 2+ years combined. They read like Lou Gehrig's...50 doubles, 10 triples, 40 HR, 160 RBIs, .325 in the equivalent of playing a full 162 game schedule. I doubt Chris Young or Duda could come close to that. What does that tell you about what this guy might do as an everyday OF or 1B in bigs?

    Someone called him a poor man's Scott Hairston. I just wonder if he could be better, or a lot better, if given the chance to play every day like the Grandy Man.

    Great to see Dekker hot...now all he needs is a few Met injuries.

    Chris Young is a very big roadblock to these 2 guys...at $7 million, mind you.
