Game 14 Recap: Kingsport Mets vs. Greeneville Astros

Wilson's 9th Inning Heroics Not Enough As Kingsport Falls To Greeneville Astros 12-6 in 10 Innings

KINGSPORT, TENN

Before his 5th plate appearance, Ivan Wilson was 0/4 with 4 strikeouts.  But his 5th at-bat in the bottom of the 9th inning temporarily made up the difference as he lifted his 3rd homer of the season over the left field corner and tied the game at 6 all.

Kingsport (6-8) pitching fell apart in the 10th allowing 6 runs to cross the plate and the Mets lost their third consecutive game.  Ramon Estevez took the loss allowing 5ER on 4hits and 1 BB in 2.1 innings pitched.

SP Gaby Almonte pitched a solid 5 innings giving up 5 runs (only 2 were earned) on 3 hits and striking out 3.

Kingsport's offense had another solid outing - belting out 14 hits.  5 players had multi-hit games including SS Luis Guillorme who went 4/5 in the leadoff spot.

Kingsport had its chances to win this one.  They stranded 12 men and only went 4/20 as a team with RISP.  There is a different between hitting and timely hitting.  The K-Mets must work on the latter if they are to have a successful season.  Clutch hitting is a key ingredient to success.

Caraballo, Jose Garcia, and Wuilmer Becerra had an extremely tough night at the plate.  Combined they went 0/13 with 4Ks.

Kingsport faces Greeneville (4-8) for the next two games - on the road - before staring a three game series with the Pulaski Mariners on Sunday, July 6.

WORTH NOTING:  Kingsport's offense is 2nd in the league in strikeouts - striking out 26% of the time; Kingsport currently leads the league in home runs hit at 14;  Kingsport and Greeneville are now tied for 3rd in the division 2.5 games behind the Johnson City Cardinals.
