July 4th 2014 -- Mets 6, Rangers 5

Travis d’Arnaud hit a two run double breaking a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the eighth. The Mets beat the Rangers 6-5 Friday night at Citi Field. The win snaps the Mets 4 game losing streak. The game started out rocky for the Mets. Shin-Soo Choo led off the game with a solo homer, his 9th on the year, to make it 1-0.  Elvis Andres then hit an infield single. Jon Niese was then taken out of the game after he was hit with a line drive off the bat of Alex Rios.  Despite repeatedly saying that he was okay, Niese was removed from the game and replaced with Carlos Torres. In the bottom of the 1st the Mets jumped all over Yu Darvish to take the lead.  Curtis Granderson doubled and then scored on an RBI single by Bobby Abreu, then Lucas Duda hit a two run homer (13) and it was 3-1 Mets. Torres went 4 2/3 innings in relief lasting 84 pitches. In the 3rd the Rangers made it 3-2 on a RBI single by Alex Rios. The Mets took a 4-2 lead in the in the bottom of the 4th on an RBI double by Eric Campbell. In the bottom of the 5th the Rangers got their last run off Torres on a solo homer by Adrian Beltre (10) and it was 4-3 Mets. In the 7th with Jerry Familia pitching, errors lead to an unearned run that scored on a grounder to Eric Campbell and the game was tied at 4.  d’Arnauds double rolled to the wall in right –center scoring Abreu and Campbell. The Rangers scored a run off Jenrry Mejia in the 9th to make it 6-5 as Daniel Murphy made a circus catch on a wind-blown pop to end the game. Mejia pitched 1 1/3 innings he gets the win he’s now 5-3, Aaron Poreda takes the loss he’s now 2-1. Campbell had his difficulties in the field but is red hot going 3 for 3 with an RBI, he’s now batting .340 on the year.  Andres went 3 for 5 for the Rangers. The Mets now stand at 38-48 overall and 18-21 at home.  Saturday afternoon is game two of the series. Bartolo Colon (8-6 3.88) goes for the Mets, Colby Lewis (5-5  5.71) goes for Texas.
