8-Run 8th Sparks Mets' Comeback - Kingsport defeats Pulaski 16-11
KINGSPORT, TENN
16 runs. 16 hits. 8 errors. It was a wild box score line for Kingsport (8-10) as they bashed out a 16-11 win against the Mariners of Pulaski (10-8).
The Mets' sloppy defense resulted in 5 unearned runs and almost their 11th loss of the season. Kingsport hitters never gave up though. Down 11-8 in the 8th inning the Mets unleashed 5 hits and capitalized on 3 HBP to plate 8 runs and finalize a 16-11 victory.
SS Luis Guillorme continued his hot hitting streak and upping his average to .333. He went 3/4 on the night with 1RBI. He was pulled in the 8th after getting struck in the helmet by a pitch. He walked away on his own and in his words "I will survive."
Oswald "Ozzie" Caraballo belted his 2nd homer of the season, had two other hits, and drove in 3 runs. 3B Eudor Garcia plated 2 runs on a 2/3 night. Jose Garcia and Vicente Lupo also had 2 RBIs each.
SP Andrew Massie had some control issues tonight. He walked 4 and gave up 4 runs (2ER) on 4 hits in 4.2IP. RP Craig Missigman struggled - 0.2IP, 2 hits, 4ER, and 2BBs. Bryce Beeler got the win in relief. He pitched 1.2IP allowing 0 hits and 0 runs with 1K.
Kingsport did much better with RISP. As a team they were 9-13 in that category.
The rubber game of the series is Tuesday night. Christian Montgomery (0-2, 10.00 ERA) is scheduled to start.
WORTH NOTING: Kingsport has 51 errors on the season. Kingsport remains tied with the Greeneville Astros for 3rd place in the West Division - 3.5GB the Johnson City Cardinals. The K-Mets team average is .251 - good for 5th in the Appy League. Kingsport pitching has the highest ERA in the league right now - giving up 4.75 earned runs a game.
51 errors in 18 Kingsport games is a WOW number. Hard to imagine.
