B-Mets Clinch Playoff Berth with Rock Cats Loss

BINGHAMTON, NY – Despite being idle, the Binghamton Mets clinched their second straight postseason berth as a result of the New Britain Rock Cats’ 10-1 loss to the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Thursday night at The Diamond. The B-Mets currently sit in second place in the Eastern Division, trailing the Portland Sea Dogs by 2.5 games.

The berth marks Binghamton’s eighth trip to the postseason in franchise history. The club enjoyed playoff ventures in 1992, 1994, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2004 and 2013. The team secured the Eastern League Championship in 1992 and 1994.

Since posting a record just two games over .500 through their first 62 games, the B-Mets have gone 46-22 since June 10, riding a high-powered offense to the second-best record in the league. Binghamton leads the league in multiple categories, including batting average (.276), home runs (119), runs (667) and slugging percentage (.428). On the pitching side, the B-Mets lead the league with a 8.0 K/9 IP average and sit fifth with a 3.82 staff ERA.

The playoff-bound B-Mets (78-52) start a three-game series at home against the Akron RubberDucks on Friday at 7:05 PM
