LAST GAME: The Binghamton Mets used a strong performance from Dustin Lawley to win the rubber match of a three-game set against the Erie SeaWolves, 8-5,on Wednesday at Jerry Uht Park. Lawley went 3-for-4 with a run scored, three RBI and finished home run shy of the cycle. Dilson HerreraT.J. Rivera  andDarrell Ceciliani also collected three hits each. Ceciliani tied a season-long hitting streak at nine games in the process. Gabriel Ynoa tied a season-high with seven innings of one run ball and struck out four. Binghamton finishes the road trip at 5-2 and ends the year with a 13-9 record against Erie. The team clinched their spot in the postseason on Thursday thanks to a New Britain loss.
BINGHAMTON STARTERRHP Tyler Pill takes the hill for the 21st time this season and his 20th start. The righty picked up the win in his last outing. He gave up three runs in five innings and struck out six in game two of a doubleheader on Saturday, August 23 against Reading. Binghamton won the game 7-3. Pill is making his third start against Akron this season. He’s 0-2 and has surrendered nine runs in nine innings and has walked five in his previous two matchups. Pill has not taken a loss since May 5th. That’s a span of 15 appearances. The Covina, California native was taken by the Mets in the fourth round of the 2011 draft out of Cal State-Fullerton.

AKRON STARTER: LHP Nick Maronde is making his first appearance of the season with the RubberDucks. The southpaw has pitched for five other teams between the Angels and Indians organizations in 2014. That includes a stint in the majors with Los Angeles. Most recently, he made three starts with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers (SS-A). Maronde tossed nine innings and allowed one run on four hits. He did not factor into a decision. The 24-year-old was acquired by the Indians from the Angels on July 12.

TICKET PUNCHED: Binghamton clinched their place in the postseason on their off-day on Thursday thanks to a New Britain loss. It’s the first time in franchise history that the team has been in the playoffs two years in a row. The B-Mets won the Eastern Division behind a franchise-record 86 wins in 2013, but were swept in the Eastern Division Championship Series by Trenton. Binghamton enters Friday 2.5 games back of Portland for first place.

BURGAMY GETS RECOGNIZED: B-Mets INF Brian Burgamy was named a Eastern League postseason All-Star on Friday. The slugger was also a Mid-Season All-Star. Burgamy is among the league leaders in seven offensive categories. That includes home runs, RBI, slugging percentage, extra-base hits, runs scored, total bases, and walks.

DUSTIN’ OFF A SLUMP: Binghamton INF Dustin Lawley went 3-for-4 and finished just a home run shy of the cycle in Wednesday’s win over Erie. It snaps a 2-for-25 slump for the slugger. Lawley is fifth in the league with 48 extra-base hits this season.

ONE MORE TIME: Binghamton begins their final home series of the season on Friday. The team is 40-23 at NYSEGStadium in 2014. That’s good for the second best record in the league. 19 of those victories have come against teams from the Western Division.

NO DOG DAYS FOR DARRELL: Binghamton OF Darrell Ceciliani tied a season-long nine game hitting streak on Wednesday. He’s hitting .373 (25-for-67) in 16 games in August with three doubles, a triple and 11 runs scored. He has a base knock in all but one game this month. That includes eight multi-hit performances.
