DiLauro takes lose in Dodgers walk-off win |
The Mets wrap up with the Dodoges as they complete their final
West Coast roadtrip of the season. Jerry Koosman didn’t have his best stuff but
battled through 9 hits over 6 innings, giving up four runs, three earned.
Trailing 4-0, New York mounted a comeback in the 8th off Dodger
starter Claude Osteen. With one out PH Bobby Pfeil singled and driven home by
Tommie Agee’s 24th homerun of the year. Now down 4-2, the Mets 8th
inning rally continued with Buddy Harrelson’s two out single and culiminated
with Donn Clendenon’s big fly, his 12th, which tied the score at 4.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough. Met
reliever Jack Di Lauro came on and after retiring the first batter, gave up a
single to Maury Wills. LF Manny Mota sacrificed Wills to 2nd, and
with a runner in scoring position, Willie Davis smacked a two-bagger to left,
giving LA a walk-off win.
Luckily, the Cubs were shut out by Cincinnati so the
Mets lost no ground in the NL East. After a travel day Thursday, it’s back to home
to Shea for two Friday against the Phils.
