Mack - Left Handed Relievers Are Coming

The Mets literally have no lefty reliever. Tell me why they cannot put Jon Niese into the pen and give Matz a shot?

Jeff Sullivan: Niese has actual value as a starting pitcher?

Jeff Sullivan: Lefty relievers will become available toward the end of spring training

Let's remember something...

The Mets rassigned Brandon Nimmo and two others back to the minor league complex a week ago, which still left 54 players in Big Boy Camp.

Yes, Bobby Parnell and Josh Edgin were two of them and, yes, both will probably start the season on the DL, but that still leaves 27 more players that hae to be reassigned before the opening day 25-man squad is firmed up.

Here's the good news...

This is the same thing that's happening on all the other teams and there will be plenty of excess left hand relievers that deals can be made for before the season starts.

Well, maybe not plenty, but some.

The Mets need to keep showcasing the best relievers they have on the team, especially if they are righties. Playing guys like Matt Reynolds, Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Cesar Puello, and Matt den Dekker will also generate some interest.

Sandy Alderson can (and will) solve this lefty problem before April 1st

  1. I agree...have a real feeling lefty situation will get a reasonable fix. No Andrew Miller, but some reasonable fix.

Kirk 0 for 4, 3Ks shows Dekker (single) is not out of running. Nice game ending throw to plate by Kirk though.

  2. Dekker is at best a long shot, given his remaining option. And Kirk would have to collapse. So, as of today (pre-game), I agree, it's over.

Gotta love the new and improved Grandy.
