4/12/15

Savannah 11 - West Virginia 4

The Sand Gnats got hitting early and often on Saturday as they claim their first victory against the West Virginia Power, 11-4.
It was Stefan Sabol's two-run shot in the first that gave the Gnats the lead and they never looked back. The Gnats posted a three-run 1st and a 5-run 6th inning on their way to their first victory of the 2015 campaign. Sabol was 3-for-5 with four RBIs on the day.
The Gnats' bats got to Power starter Dovydas Neverauskas early. Neveraukas allowed four hits and five runs, all earned, in just 1.2 IP and was saddled with the loss. Savannah continued to roll in the 6th, as 11 Sand Gnats stepped to the plate and hung five runs on the Power.
For the West Virginia, it was Jerrick Suiter continuing his three-game hit-streak. Suiter went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. In the 3rd, Suiter's two-run home run that cut the then Gnats lead to just two.
Sand Gnats starter RHP Casey Meisner (1-0, 3.60) took home the win in his South Atlantic League debut. Meisner struck out four over his five innings of work.
On a day where every Sand Gnat reached bases and 8-of-9 got a hit, it was the bullpen that shined. Reliever Carlos Valdez threw two scoreless frames as Gaither Bumgardner and James Duff each threw one scoreless inning.
