3 wins tonight, with a late blown lead in Savannah preventing a sweep by our Mets farm laborers.
Minor League Player of The Night - Logan Verrett, welcome back, 4 scoreless innings of relief for a Vegas team that spotted Sacramento a Matt Bowman 5 spot and rallied for an 8 run 3rd to take control. Word is out that they have offered to tutor Mets hitters.
Let's add Dominic Smith on hie best night in 2015, with 3 hits, 3 runs, and 4 RBIs.
Honorable Mention - a trio of 3 RBI guys in Vegas (Muno, Campbell, Rohlfing).
AAA - Las Vegas - (23-10) 12 - Sacramento. (17-16) 8
RHSP Matt Bowman - 3 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 4 BB, 2 K, HR, 8.13. UGLY.
RF Eric Campbell - 3-4, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, BB, .429
2B. Danny Muno - 3-5, 2 2B, 3 RBI, .261
C. Dan Rohlfing, 1-4, 3 RBI, .205
CF. Darrell Ceciliani - 2-5, 2B, 2 RBI, .341
RHRP Logan Verrett - 4 IP, 3 H, 4 K,1.17 (1-0)
Jack Leathersich added a perfect inning with a K. In 11.1 innings in 2015, he has allowed just 5 hits and 3 walks while striking out 20.
AA - Binghamton (19-13) 4 - Richmond (10-19) 1
RHSP Rainy Lara - 5.2-IP, 4-H, 0-R, 4-K, 2-BB, 2.51
Mack - this was Lara's sixth start of the season, all of which he gave up three or less runs per game. Lara is on of those non-prospect type of starters that could be a nice addition in a multi-player deal someday. My guess is he, Luis Cessa (2.67) or Seth Lugo (2.45) could be the first promotion to Las Vegas soon.
just 3B Josh Rodriguez - 1-4, 1-R, 1-HR (7), 2-RBI, .316
LF Jayce Boyd - 3-4, 1-R, 2-doubles, 1-RBI, .291
Jayce has 11 doubles, but no homers in 103 at bats, which won't get him to the bigs. Fine relief from Paul Sewald and Jon Velasquez to support Lara.
A+ - St. Lucie (14-18) 12 - Tampa (17-15) 6
RHSP Miller Diaz - 6.0-IP, 5-H, 3-R, 4-K, 2-BB, 3.00
1B Dominic Smith - 3-5, 3-R, double, 4-RBI, .187
RF Maikis De La Cruz - 3-4, 1-R, double, 2-RBI, .283
3B Phillip Evans - 2-5, double, 3-RBI, .444
Mack - We need to revisit Evans here... Evans was a highly touted SS prospect in the 2011 draft, out of LaCosta Canyon (CA) High School. Experts had him as the 3rd or 4th top shortstop in the draft; however, he sent word through his representatives that he would not be signing out of high school and would instead play ball for San Diego State. Was a member of the Aflac All-American team... for some reason, the Mets drafted him in the 15th round and offered him overslot money to sign. To everyone's amazement, he took it. Since then, he's had a hard time finding a home as a shortstop in a system full of them and has been a major disappointment... 2012: Brooklyn - 294-AB, .252-BA... 2013: Savannah - 350-AB, .203-BA... 2014: St. Lucie - 389-AB, .247-BA... In 2015, he started out on the disabled list, but has since been activated... as a THIRD BASEMAN... something the Mets could use in the system... stats so far since coming back: 4-9. Just keep one eye on him. He' still only 22 and could someday serve as an emergency fill-in for David Wright someday.
A - Hickory (22-9) 9 - Savannah (12-19) 5
RHSP Corey Oswalt - 6.0-IP, 6-H, 4-R, 5-K, 2-BB, 4.98
C Tomas Nido - 2-3, 2-R, .275
1B Jon Leroux - 2-4, 2-R, .234
GOAT: Matt Bowman. With an 8.13 ERA, may be time for Bowman to grow a goatee. Jimmy Duff turned a 5-5 Gnats nail biter into a 9-5 loss by surrendering four 8th inning runs in his one inning of hard labor last night.
For those who did not read the article, Akeel Morris' 28 straight outs without a hit allowed is a WOW stat.
