Michael Conforto Wins FLS Player Of The Week... Again

Helene Haessler

For the second time this season the Florida State League has named St. Lucie Mets left fielder Michael Conforto as its Player of the Week.

Conforto went 11 for 30 in seven games last week with three doubles, one home run, four RBIs and five runs scored. Conforto’s home run on Wednesday at Palm Beach broke a 3-3 tie in the ninth. It came on an 0-2 pitch with two outs.

Conforto has doubled in three consecutive games. His 12 total doubles are tied for the most in the FSL. He leads the league in total bases with 84.

Defensively, Conforto threw out the tying run at home plate in the sixth inning at Dunedin on Friday to preserve a 2-1 lead. The Mets would go on to win 3-1.

Conforto was previously named the FSL Player of the Week for the first week of the season (April 9-19).

Conforto is in his first year of full season baseball. He was drafted by the New York Mets in the first round (10th overall) out of Oregon State last summer.

MLB.com ranks Conforto as the Mets’ No. 5 prospect. He resides in Woodinville, Wash.

It’s the third league award for St. Lucie this year. Robert Gsellman was named FSL Pitcher of the Week earlier in May. - Press Release
