Wednesday afternoon in San Francisco, a throwing error by
Brandon Crawford allowed Ruben Tejada to score the go head run in the 6th
inning, the Mets take 2 of 3 from the Giants with a 4-1 win. Jacob deGrom
pitched like the All-Star he is going 8 shutout innings allowing 2 hits walking
1 and striking out 10. Jake Peavy
started for the Giants and was matching deGrom until the sixth when Tejada came
home with the unearned run. In the 7th
Juan Lagares brought home the 2nd run on a fielder’s choice. Eric Campbell hit a 2 run homer in the 9th
to cap the scoring, his 3rd on the year at the first homer by a Met
other that Curtis Granderson in 15 games. Peavy goes 7 innings allowing 6 hits
2 runs (1 earned) walking 1 and striking out 5. deGrom improves to 9-6 and
drops his era to 2.14. Bobby Parnell pitched the 9th in a non-safe
situation and yielded a RBI single by Hunter Pence. Jeury Familia was then
beckoned to finish the 9th and earn his 24th save. Peavy falls to 0-4 for the Giants. The Met
offense scattered 7 singles and scratched out the 2 runs to win it. With the
win the Mets improve to 44-42 and are now 15-28 on the road and surprisingly take
4 of 6 on this California road swing. The Nats were postponed to the Mets gain a half game and now trail by 3 in 2nd place in the east. The Braves lost, so the Mets now lead the Braves by 1 1/2 games. Next up the Mets come home for the a 3 game
set with the Diamondbacks that will lead into the All-Star Break. Friday night Noah Syndergaard (3-4 3.38) goes for the Mets, Chase Anderson (4-2
3.71) goes for Arizona.
deGrom, not Harvey, is the Ace of this staff.
ReplyDeleteHey D Whit, I'll take your correct observation one step further and ask, could deGrom be the best starter in all of the big leagues?
ReplyDeleteThese "ace" labels mean nothing, but it is correct that deGrom is having a better half-season than Matt Harvey.
ReplyDeleteOh, sorry, that me up above, re: "ace" comment.
ReplyDeleteQuestion for Mack: I see that Cecchini does not appear on your top 20 list. Oversight?
James Preller
Ace/studs or not, im glad that deGrom and Familia are on the Mets, mainly because they're the best 'players' on the team.
