Friday night at Citi Field, Bobby Parnell allowed three
consecutive hits in the top of the 10th inning. The Pirates go on to
score twice as they beat the Mets 3-2. For the first 9 innings the only runs
came on solo homers. The Pirates got off to a 1-0 in the top of the first when
Neil Walker hit a solo homer off Bartolo Colon, his 12th on the
year. In the 6th Yoenis Cespedes launched his 2nd NY Met
homer and 20th on the year to tie the game at 1. In the 10th
Parnell allowed singles by Chris Stewart and Francisco Cervelli to start off
the inning. Sterling Marte ran for Stewart and it was 1st and 3rd. The next batter Placido Polanco lined an RBI
single to make it 2-1 Bucs. Carlos
Torres relieved Parnell and intentionally walked Andrew McCutchen to load the
bases. Aramis Ramirez then hit a sac-fly
to right to make it 3-1. In the bottom of the 10th the Mets made a run against Pittsburgh closer Mark Melancon. Juan Lagares led off with a double advancing to 3rd on a wild pitch and scoring on a sac-fly by Curtis Granderson. Melancon held on for this 36th save. Parnell takes the loss falling to 1-2. Arquimedes
Caminero nabs the win he’s now 3-1. Colon pitched great getting the no-decision
going 7 allowing just 5 hits the 1 run (earned) walking 2 and striking out
7. Tyler Clippard masterfully
scorelessly navigated thought the heart of the Pirate order in the 8th;
Jeurys Familia pitched a scoreless 9th. Cespedes went 3 for 5 and was a triple shy of
the cycle to lead the offense for the Mets. With the loss the Mets 4 game winning streak comes to an end as they fall to
63-53 and are now 42-19 at home. With the
Nats playing in San Francisco the Mets are now 4 games in front in the NL East
pending that result. Saturday it’s games 2 of the set. The red hot Jonathon Niese (7-9 3.46) goes
for the Mets, Charlie Morton (7-4 4.48) goes for Pittsburgh.
Not being able to score with men on 2nd & 3rd with no outs really came back to bite the Mets tonight.
ReplyDeleteSomething I was hoping was in the past.
Glad it isn't a regular occurrence anymore.
