August 7th 2015 -- Mets 4, Rays 3

Friday night in St. Petersburg, the Mets scored 2 runs in the top of the 9^th inning finally taking the advantage in a see-saw game. The Mets beat the Rays 4-3. For the first 8 innings the two teams traded solo homers. Jacob deGrom and Jake Odorizzi were both tossing scoreless games until the 4^th.  In the bottom of the inning Grady Sizemore hit a solo homer off deGrom, his 4th on the year to make it 1-0.  In the top of the 7^th, Juan Uribe hit a long home run off Odorizzi, his 11^th on the year and 3^rd as a Mets to tie the game at 1. Jump to the bottom of the 7^th, James Loney hits his 4^th homer on the year into the seats in right to give the Rays the 2-1 edge.  Top of the 8^th Daniel Murphy clubbed a solo homer off Jake McGee to tie it at 2, for Murph his 8^th on the year.  Tyler Clippard came in to pitch the 8^th and he yielded a solo homer to Evan Longoria, his 13^th on the year to make it 3-2. In the top of the 9^th the Mets rallied to score twice against the Rays closer Brad Boxberger. Lucas Duda reached on an error and went to 2^nd on a wild pitch. Michael Conforto then tied the game at 3 with an RBI double to left center.  Travis d’Arnaud rolled an infield single to the right side to make it 1^st and 3^rd. Then with 2 outs Wilmer Flores blooped a single to right to make it 4-3 Mets. Jeurys Familia pitched the bottom of the 9^th to earn his 30^th save and the Mets 7^th straight win.  deGrom battled all night long. He lasted 6 1/3 yielding 6 hits the 2 solo homers and struck out 7. Eric O’Flaherty and Bobby Parnell finished the 7^th inning. Clippard pitched the 8^th and earns his first win as a Met. He’s 2-3 overall. Offensively Murphy and Flores led the way with 2 hits apiece.  With the win the Mets improve to 59-50 on the year overall and 21-32 on the road.  The Nats lost to the Rockies in D.C., the Mets now lead by 2 1/2 games in the NL East. Saturday night it’s game 2 of the series. Noah Syndergaard (6-5 2.66) goes for the Mets, Nathan Karns (6-5 3.37) goes for Tampa
