SCORES:
Las Vegas (64-49) - Salt Lake. Postponed.
Binghamton (61-50) 2 - Trenton 5
St Lucie (56-54) 2 - Jupiter 5
Savannah (61-48) 3 - Charleston 2
Brooklyn (23-23) 2 - Vermont 7
Kingsport (21-22) 4 - Johnson City 0
GCL Mets (23-18) 6 - Cardinals 5
Now Here's the Scoop:
Las Vegas strode out onto the field with Matt Bowman taking the start. Well, not exactly. Rained out, folks.
Binghamton's Gabe Ynoa hoped to improve on 3.81 ERA tonight. He was great (7 IP, 4 H, 1 R), but (gasp) Paul Sewald surrendered 2 in the month to tie it, and Velasquez lost when he gave two 10th inning runs. Gavin Cecchini had 2 hits, and 3 by T J Rivera.
St Lucie took on Jupiter, a large planet to tackle, with Kevin McGowan on the mound. He went a fine 6, but Kyle Regnault loaded the bases and Jimmy Duff let them all score, resulting in a 3 run loss. The offense was little, but Dom Smith (.305) launched his 5th homer and 30th double.
Savannah handed the ball to Casey Delgado tonight. He moved to 7-3. Guillorme, Mora, and Johnson has
D 2 hits each.
Brooklyn sent all their slumbering lumber to Lumber Liquidators and brought in a fresh supply of bats - I made that up. But the hitting has been quite anemic, Tonight, a 2-0 lead after 5 was frittered away by the pen. David Thompson (#3) went deep in the loss.
Kingsport tried again after yesterday's postponement to get a game in tonight, sending Nabil Crismatt (2-1, 2.67) out to deal. He dealt, all right, with 6 innings of 3 hit shutout ball and 6K's to move to 3-1.
Yoryi Nuez went the final 3 scoreless and K'd 6 as well. Kevin Kaczmarski and Luis Carpio had 3 hits each and both are hitting .321.
GCL Mets continued to play solid ball with a tough 6-5 win.
GOAT: Jon Velasquz
Interesting scene from last night: They intentionally walked Cuddyer to choose to pitch to D. Smith.
ReplyDeleteHe is having quite the season. What do you think his ETA is in relation to Duda's FA year? Any inkling as to what the Mets should do here?
Thanks,
Cody
Cody, I think Cuddyer should arrive in a few days. Kidding aside, I think Smith will be ready opening day 2017. Half year AA, half year AAA. Of course, Duda could be signed long term, which would block Smith, but as this season shows, you make plans as a team but injuries and other things (e.g., Mejia) pop up and turn plans into scrambled eggs.
ReplyDeleteI see Smith as a great glove and I 40 double, 15-20 homer, .280 + guy. Very similar to Conforto, who is 2 years older than Smith. I'd hesitate to trade that sort of a bat, unless it brought in top flight quality. We need a DH!
Delgado is quite a nice story. No minor league baseball before this year, and a fine 6-3, 3.24 in 72 IP since signed. So far, so good. I think I wrote he was 7-3, but he is 6-3.
ReplyDeleteThomas,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the thoughtful response. Any chance he's capable of learning a different pos.?
And why couldn't we trade him, not for a major league player, but rather an elite-prospect-for-elite-prospect trade? Trade him for a position of need. I know those hardly ever happen, but doesn't seem such a bad idea. A RF/CF for when Grandy's contract is up? A 3B for when Wright retires?
Word on Smith is he is exclusively a 1b - and he is a great one - I for one would be okay with Smith playing all of 16 and 17 in the minors - a year at AA and AAA - he is only 20 - no need to rush him unless something happens to Duda
