DOWN UNDER: Mets Minor League Results - 8-20-15

STAR OF THE DAY: Tom McIlraith, Jake Keubler

HONORABLE MENTION: Guillorme
, Becerra, McNeil, Davis

 SCORES:

Las Vegas (68-58) 4 - Omaha 5

Binghamton (66-55)  - Richmond.  RAINED OUT

St Lucie (62-61) 5 -  Palm Beach 2

Savannah (73-48) 6 - Kannapolis 2

Brooklyn (27-30) 4 - Lowell 3
Kingsport (30-25) 8 - Bluefield 0

GCL Mets (25-27) 3  - Nationals
 4

Now Here's the Scoop:

Las Vegas sent Dillon Gee, hoping to pull even with Omaha, which led them by one game. Started out rough, but 7 innings and just 2 runs solid.

FORGET VIC BLACK. HE GOT HAMMERED FOR 3 RUNS. Six runners in a fraction of an inning. Taijeron hit # 20. Big loss.

Binghamton's Gabe Ynoa
did not pitch. Did rain, though.

St Lucie started a guy you may know, Stevie Wonder Matz, who was unremarkable, 2.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 K. Fine relief pitching (Jake Keubler with 4 scoreless to move to 4-0, 1.23).

Three Jeff McNeil hits (.315) led to a 5-2 victory. Smith had a hit (.310) and his 73rd RBI.

Savannah tried for 16 in a row with Casey Delgado. Done. Sweet Sixteen. Casey is now 7-3. Paez a scoreless 8th, Luis Mateo a perfect 9th, 1 K.

Guillorme? 3 hits, 3 RBIs (51), .312. Becerra? 3 hits, 2 RBIs, .304.  Garcia? Hit, RBI, .295. NEXT UP: 17 in a row.

Brooklyn had no runs and 4 hits heading to bottom 9 and trailed by 2. Kevin Canelon (8 IP, 4 H, 2 R) looked like he'd be a hard luck loser. But 2 Cyclone runs in the 9th tied it up and sent it into extras.

Fell behind in the 11th, 3-2. But again, a rally! 3 straight hits, a walk...then the winning run scores when light hitting Pedro Perez got HBP! A win that had to feel like a million bucks.

Kingsport rolled out 3-1 Tom McIlraith. He went to 4-0 with 7 shutout innings with no walks and 5 Ks. A great relief outing by Seth Davis (2 IP, Ks) finished the shutout.

Hitting? The usual suspects. Kaczmarski (.354)? 2 hits, 2 RBIs. Carpio (.306)? Same thing.    Mazelka (.368)? Two hits.  Winningham? Hit and a walk.  A fearsome foursome.

GCL Mets' Joel Huertas has had really fine, and also bad, outings. Today, an excellent outing. 5.2 IP, 1 R, 7 K. Max Worrall? Terrific for 2.1 innings.  Castro?  Lousy as he gave up 3 in the 9th to blow the game and take the loss.

Ali Sanchez had 2 hits and a walk (.283) and Des Lindsay (.321) had a single and triple in 4 ABs. That draft pick is looking really good so far.

 GOAT: VIC BLACK

  1. At this point, so many guys are pitching better in relief in the high minors than Black. He has had glimpses of decent, but lots of simply awful. Parnell has been a lot less awful.

BTW, read that Matz threw 41 pitches, Mets building him up to 90 to recall him.
