DOWN UNDER: Mets Minor League Playoff Recap - Tom Brennan

Well, Kingsport lost its opening playoff round 2 games to 1 a few days back, leaving 2 Mets Minors playoff teams: Binghamton and Savannah.

The latter two started their playoffs last night. Results: not pretty.

BINGHAMTON:

Tyler Pill had a very rough go of it in AAA this year. AA has been another story: in 2014 and 2015, by my count, in his last 23 AA starts, he had gone 15-0 with 8 No decisions.  Amazing.

So last night, he starts the AA Playoffs vs. Reading. How he do?
Like he was back Las Vegas: awful...5 innings, 12 hits, 7 runs. Lost. He even went 0-1 at the plate, which is never expected.

Beck Wheeler followed in the 6th, allowing 2 more runs. Ultimately, Reading totaled 9 runs and 18 hits.

The B Mets, not having Yoenis Cespedes in their line up, could only muster up 4 runs and 8 hits. A 9-4 loss.

Time to regroup.

SAVANNAH:

The lads who won almost 70% of their games After their first 23 lousy ones had to be favored.  But ya still gotta play the game. Savannah's playoff record stands at 0-1 after a 5-1 loss.

Martires Arias has been great all year, but allowed 2 homers in the 4th, and 5 runs overall, so for him it was not a terrible night but he did not get the job done.

Neither did Gnats hitters, managing just a run on 7 hits. Promising prospects Luis Guillorme and Eudor Garcia had 2 hits apiece, no surprise there. The other 7 hombres did very little.

Time to regroup.

Looking ahead:

Binghamton plays game 2 of its best-of-5 series today, with Rob Gsellman, coming off a rough start, getting the nod. If Bingo wins this round, a best of 5 championship round is next.

On Friday, Binghamton is slated for game 3 and Gabe Ynoa, and Savannah is scheduled for game 2 with Ricky Knapp.

The Gnats' series is a best of 3. If they proceed out of this round, another best of 3, then a 5 game championship round.
