Akron 5 - Binghamton 2

The Binghamton Mets produced just two runs from ten hits in a 5-2 loss to the Akron RubberDucks on Saturday night at Canal Park. Stefan Sabol’s pair of two-out run-producing hits were not enough for Binghamton to avoid their twelfth loss in fifteen games.
Binghamton’s offense came early against Akron starter Shawn Morimando. The lefty allowed a season-high seven hits, but the B-Mets could only push two runs across in his five innings. Sabol carried the load offensively with a two-out RBI double in the second and a two-out RBI single in the fourth.
B-Met starter Robert Gsellman failed to preserve the two-run cushion. Akron pushed across their first run after loading the bases with no outs in the fourth. In the fifth, Nellie Rodriguez pushed the RubberDucks ahead by pulling a two-run double into left.
Playing from behind, Binghamton’s offense stalled against the RubberDucks bullpen. Nick Maronde and Louis Head allowed singles in their respective innings, but were helped out when Eric Haase nabbed attempted base stealers in the sixth and seventh. Perci Garner struck out two in the ninth to lock down his first save.
Logan Taylor closed Binghamton’s pitching tab with three innings of relief. Akron tacked on two insurance runs against the righty in the eighth.
Morimando (8-0) struck out four over five innings in his league-best eighth win. Gsellman (1-3) gave up three runs on a season-high seven hits over five innings in the loss, his sixth straight winless start.
