Altoona 5 - Binghamton 1



The Binghamton Mets loaded the bases and brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth but fell to the Altoona Curve 5-1 Tuesday night at NYSEG Stadium. Binghamton went only 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position and left ten runners on base.
Trailing 5-1 in the bottom of the ninth, Binghamton packed the bases with a walk and a pair of singles but Derrik Gibson struck out and Kyle Johnson lined out to end the game.
Altoona got the scoring started in the second inning. Harold Ramirez walked and stole second, then moved to third on an Erich Weiss single. Austin Meadows drove him home with another single, putting the Curve on top. Later with runners at first and second, Reese McGuire roped a single to right. Meadows came around to score from second, giving Altoona a 2-0 lead.
The Curve struck again in the fifth, as Ramirez led off with a single. Meadows was then hit by a pitch and Jose Osuna loaded the bases with a single. McGuire followed with another single to right, scoring Ramirez and Meadows. Eric Wood then smacked a single to left, sending Osuna home and putting Altoona on top 5-0.
Binghamton got its lone run in the sixth. Gibson began the frame with a single and Kyle Johnson followed with another single, moving Gibson to second. A Matt Oberste grounder advanced the runners to second and third then Dominic Smith grounded out to short, scoring Gibson to make the score 5-1.
Mickey Jannis (1-3) was chased from the game in the fifth. He allowed five runs on seven hits and walked three over 4 1/3 innings. Clay Holmes (3-4) earned the win with six strikeouts over six one-run innings.
Gibson went 2-for-5 with a double and a run to lead the B-Mets. McGuire went 2-for-4 with three RBI for the Curve.
