LAST TIME OUT: The B-Mets loaded the bases and brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth but stranded all three runners and fell to the Altoona Curve 5-1 Tuesday Night at NYSEG Stadium. Derrik Gibson went 2-for-5 with a double and the only Binghamton run. LJ Mazzilli was 2-for-4.Mickey Jannis allowed five runs over 4.1 innings and took the loss. The B-Mets bullpen combined for 4.2 no-hit innings.

BINGHAMTON STARTERLHP Andrew Barbosa takes the hill for his first career start against Altoona and his first against a Pittsburgh-affiliated team. Barbosa’s 31 strikeouts are tied for third most on the pitching staff and he is averaging 6.2 punchouts per start. He last threw on Friday in Portland and took a no-decision after delivering 4.1 shutout innings with two hits, three walks and five strikeouts. The B-Mets eventually lost the seven-inning game 1-0

ALTOONA STARTER:  The Curve will look to LHP Cody Dickson for the second game of the series. A fourth round pick of the Pirates in 2013, Dickson is appearing in Double-A for the first time in 2016. He went 12-7 with a 4.13 ERA for Bradenton (High-A) in 2015. Dickson last appeared on Thursday in Richmond and earned the win with six strikeouts over 5.2 one-run innings. This is his first career start against the B-Mets

DEATH BY PAPERCUT: Mickey Jannis allowed five runs on seven hits, all of which were singles, during Tuesday’s loss to Altoona. The Curve went 6-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

OUT-HITTING THE COMPETITION: The B-Mets out-hit the Curve 9-7 in the 5-1 loss on Tuesday, a feat that has generally led to wins. Binghamton is now 13-5 in games in which it out-hits the opponent.

NOT COMING BACK: Binghamton has struggled when falling behind in a game, going only 5-15 in games in which the opponent scores first. The B-Mets have not one a game that they trailed after the seventh inning. Conversely, Altoona has been great at holding onto leads. The Curve have converted 13 of 14 save opportunities.

MAROONED ON THE BASEPATHS: The B-Mets went only 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position  and stranded 10 runners on base during Tuesday’sloss. Binghamton left multiple runners on base in three separate innings and left the bases loaded in the ninth. The season-high for runners left on base is 13 in a 4-3 11-inning loss to Harrisburg on 4/12.

SLUGGING AGAINST SOUTHPAWS: A left-handed starter is a welcome sight for the B-Mets batters as Binghamton is hitting .322 as a team against lefties as opposed to .239 against righties. Matt Oberste (.467), Derrik Gibson (.444), Phillip Evans (.429) and Kyle Johnson (.412) are all batting over .400 against southpaws. Left-handers have been a rare sight as the team has only 174 at bats compared with 1,033 against right-handers.
