Saturday's Minors Results

Las Vegas 7  -  Tacoma 4  -  1B Marc Krauss blasted a two run home run and Brandon Nimmo added another double and single, but it was the relief pitching of Dario Alvarez, Jeff Walters, Josh Smoker and Paul Sewald that produced four scoreless innings to seal the victory.

B-Mets 5 – New Hampshire 2  -  Matt Oberste launched a tiebreaking three-run homer in the eighth inning to push the Binghamton Mets to a 5-2 come-from-behind win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Saturday evening at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. Three B-Met relievers stranded seven Fisher Cat runners over the final three innings to secure Binghamton's sixth straight win.

After Maikis De Le Cruz singled to start the eighth and Dominic Smith walked, Oberste launched Brady Dragmire's 0-1 offering just over the left-center field wall to snap the tie. His first career Double-A homer gave the B-Mets a 5-2 lead.

B-Met reliever Luis Mateo had preserved a tie game in the seventh by stranding two inherited runners. The righty allowed two to reach in the eighth before David Roseboom took over. He left both on to keep a hold of the three-run lead.

In the ninth, Akeel Morris loaded the bases on consecutive two-out walks before inducing Roemon Fields to bounce out to Derrik Gibson to end the game

Oberste's blast capped Binghamton's comeback after the Fisher Cats cracked the scoreboard in the second inning. Following a one-out walk to Matt Dean, KC Hobson belted Mickey Jannis' 0-1 knuckleball over the right-field wall for his second homer of the season.

Trailing by two in the third, De La Cruz poked the first pitch he saw inside first base and down the right field line to plate Xorge Carrillo and Jared King. The single, one of De La Cruz's three hits in the game, tied the game at two.

Jannis retired 12 of 14 Fisher Cats before Rowdy Tellez led off the seventh with a double. Matt Dean followed with a single, putting runners at the corners. Mateo took over from Jannis and stranded both runners to preserve the tie.

Mateo (1-2) registered three outs out of the bullpen to earn his first career Double-A win. Morris notched his second save of the season after blowing his two previous chances. Jannis allowed two runs on five hits over 6-1/3 innings in the no-decision.

POSTGAME NOTES: Matt Oberste's last home run came as a St. Lucie Met on August 6, 2015…Dominic Smith had his team-best eight-game hitting streak snapped with an 0-for-3 game…Binghamton has won six straight games for the first time since a six-game stretch in July 2015

Palm Beach 2  -  St. Lucie 1  -  Palm Beach got a tie-breaking RBI double from Casey Grayson in the sixth inning and the Cardinals beat the St. Lucie Mets 2-1 on Saturday at Tradition Field.

With one out in the sixth, Danny Diekroeger singled past pitcher Scarlyn Reyes. Grayson followed with the go-ahead double to the gap in left-center that chased Reyes from the game.

The Mets had a few offensive chances throughout the game but mostly with two outs. The only time they cashed in was in the first inning on Kevin Taylor's two-out RBI single that scored Amed Rosario.

The Mets went 2 for 11 with runners in scoring position and stranded 10 runners. Their best chance to rally came when Tomas Nido led off the sixth with a double. However, Cardinals starter Ian McKinney struck out three in a row to end his outing. Kevin Herget retired the side in order in the ninth to collect his second save of the series and his league leading sixth save.

The Mets outhit the Cardinals 7-6, but only Nido's hit went for extra bases.

The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead in the first when Darren Seferina opened the game with a triple off of Reyes. Diekroeger knocked Seferina in with a double.

Kannapolis 7  -  Columbia 2   -  Ivan Wilson smashed his third home run of the season on Saturday night but it wasn't enough to defeat Kannapolis - the Intimidators took down Columbia, 7-2, at Spirit Communications Park. Wilson's mammoth long ball in the eighth inning cleared the left-field wall and nearly left the park entirely on the fly. The outfielder has reached base safely in six straight games.

For the 16th time this season (in just 23 games), Columbia (13-10) scored first. The Fireflies are jumping on the scoreboard before their opponents 70% of the time this year. The scoring started in the second frame. Dash Winningham walked against starter Zach Thompson (W, 1-2) and eventually moved over to third base. It was Milton Ramos who lined a base hit through the hole on the left side of the infield to plate Winningham. The home team led, 1-0.

The Kannapolis (9-14) bats woke up in the third and fourth innings, scoring five runs in the frames off of Tyler Badamo (L, 1-2). With the bases full in the fourth, Cleuluis Rondon's double scored everyone to give the visitors the 5-1 advantage.

Wilson's home run in the eighth was immediately answered in the top of the ninth. Brad Strong doubled and scored on an error and later Corey Zangari plated Tyler Sullivan with a single.

  1. Considering all 4 Mets starters were stuggling going in, a split of the 4 games made for a decent night.

Despite a 4 strikeout game a few games back, Nimmo is 8 for 17 over his last 5. He and Cecchini both waking up. Keep it up, boys. Be like Conforto.
