ABOUT LAST GAME: Columbia’s ninth inning rally fell just short in the 4-2 loss to the Lexington Legends Sundayafternoon. The Fireflies scored two runs in the final frame and had the potential tying run in scoring position. Tim Tebow notched his second multi-hit game of the season after going 3-for-3 at the plate on Friday night.

THE BRIGHT SPOT: The Fireflies dropped three of four games in their most recent series with the Lexington Legends. However, on Friday night, the offense came to life with 12 hits in what was the fifth shut-out win of the season (5-0). Columbia managed just 12 total hits in the other three games of the series.

FRESH ARMS: In the last two games, the Fireflies’ bullpen accounted for eight innings, zero runs allowed, and 13 strikeouts. Joe Zanghi and Max Kuhns each logged two innings (only three combined  hits allowed) last night.Austin McGeorge and Matt Blackham did the same on Saturday and allowed a combined two hits. Columbia relievers have a 0.93 ERA over the last six games (two earned runs).

DRAMA WITH TOURISTS: Last year, 12 of the 15 meetings between Asheville and Columbia were decided by three runs or less. The Fireflies were 4-8 in those close calls.

STREAKS: Dash Winningham has the longest on-base streak for the Fireflies this season (11 games from April 6-April 16). Gene Cone is not far behind with a current on-base streak of 10 games dating back to April 12.

COUNTERPART: Riley Pint starts on the mound for Asheville today. Pint was the fourth overall selection of the 2016 MLB Draft. The righty went to St. Thomas Aquinas HS (KS), which is less than 20 minutes from Matt Blackham’s hometown of Overland Park, Kansas.
