BA – Devin Hairston is
putting together a strong junior season and is hitting .337/.375/.478 in 23
games. Somewhat surprisingly given All-American Brendan McKay’s presence in the
Cardinals lineup and Hairston’s 5-foot-8, 175-pound frame, he leads the team
with 25 RBIs. Long known primarily for his slick defense, Hairston has
developed into one of Louisville’s best hitters. He batted .361/.415/.478 and
led the team with 56 runs last year. Now playing a more prominent role in the
Cardinals’ lineup, he has continued to hit. He said he tries to stay within
himself at the plate and use all fields to hit.

D1 - Wil Crowe (South
Carolina) continues to build his draft resume on the strength of consistent
durability and power stuff. Working into the seventh inning once again for the
Gamecocks, Crowe brought his power stuff to the hill, living at 93-97 mph and
carrying it all the way through his outing. He also continues to show power
two-seam life and has pitched very aggressively off that fastball. His
curveball was sharp in this one, and he threw some effective changeups down in
the zone as well. His three pitch mix and aggressive use of his fastball should
put Crowe squarely in the first round this June.

Trinity RHP A.J. Labas struck
out 13 batters. He threw strikes 78% of the time & first pitch strikes to
21-of-27 batters.
PG - AJ Labas is a 2017 RHP/1B with a 6-3 220 lb. frame
from Middleburg, FL who attends Trinity Christian Academy. Extra big and strong
build, looks like a college linebacker. High energy delivery that he repeats
very well, high elbow in back, arm is fast and clean coming through from a high
3/4's slot. Steady 89-91 mph fastball, gets a bit of late life to get off
barrels and has good downhill angle. Slurve type breaking ball has very tight
spin at times with sharp biting action, showed feel and command of the pitch and
was plus at times. Did not show a change up this outing but will be very
interesting if he can develop one with his present fastball/curveball
combination. Good student, verbal commitment to North Florida.
Nathan Rode @NathanRode - 3B/RHP Joe Perez (Archbishop
McCarthy HS, FL) was 3-for-4 today with 7 RBIs. GS, 1B, 2B
PG
- Joseph Perez is a 2017 3B/1B/RHP with a 6-3 205 lb. frame from Pembroke
Pines, FL who attends Archbishop Edward McCarthy HS. Big and strong athletic
build, pretty mature physically. Right handed hitter, took an outstanding BP,
showed big bat speed and raw pull power, used his lower half very well, ball
explodes off the bat. Swings were more tentative in the games without the same
aggressiveness and bat speed. Big arm strength at third base, stays balanced
well and fields the ball out front, also plays first base. Potential primary
pitcher in the future, has limited present experience on the mound. Shows big
arm strength from a high energy delivery, big downhill plane to the plate,
fastball topped out at 96 mph early before settling down. Slider flashed big
vertical depth at times. Power arm with a power bat. Good student, verbal
commitment to South Florida.
