Tom Brennan - OLD MAN HITTING TRACKER
Baseball adage:
As many have said, baseball is indeed a young man's game.
Some, like former Mets Carlos Beltran and Bartolo Colon, have defied Father Time in that regard.
But our two active old guys, Curtis Granderson and Jose Reyes, have showed the clock may be running out on them.
Thankfully, the now wildly popular Jay Bruce carried the offense big time last night while the two oldsters went 0 for 7.
Curtis and Jose's combined 2017 numbers?
13 for 104 (.125), 7 runs scored, 4 RBIs, .200 OBP, 30 Ks.
And the two former speedsters have zero (0) stolen bases.
Besides the adage I started with above, let's hear another:
THE NUMBERS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES.
Mets are hitting .219/.297/.401

Mets without Reyes and Grandy stats are still low but hitting .242.
The difference between Nats and Mets is huge. Status quo could lead to bad results.
This is exactly why some people could not understand why Alderson was so focused on keeping Granderson and trading Bruce.

ReplyDeleteAfter Reynolds' 0-8, 6 K start to the season, he has hit quite well. Move Flores to 3rd, release Jose, put Matt on team as back up utility guy?
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing the problem is the minimum 10 days you must keep someone in the minors except in the case of injury. The Mets have 3 -- Duda, Flores and TDA -- but none on the DL, so T.J. Rivera must count his poker chips in Vegas for another 4 days before he's eligible to return.
