Conlon Named League Pitcher of the Week

Binghamton Rumble Ponies starter PJ Conlon has been named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week. In his first two starts coming out of the All-Star break, the southpaw has racked up two wins and allowed just one run over 13-1/3 innings of work.

On July 18 against the Akron RubberDucks, Conlon notched his third shutout of the season, becoming just the fourth Binghamton pitcher in franchise history to reach that total in one year. Pitching on ten days rest, he struck out eight and allowed just three hits over seven scoreless innings. Five days later he pitched into the seventh against the Harrisburg Senators to guide the Ponies to a victory.

Selected by the Mets in the 13th round in 2015, Conlon owns a 7-7 record and a 3.68 ERA in 19 starts for the Rumble Ponies this season. He was recognized as a Mid-Season All-Star, but did not pitch in the All-Star Classic.

Conlon was recognized by the league for the second time this season. He took home Pitcher of the Week honors in early May. He joins Champ Stuart and Chris Flexen in the club of Rumble Ponies acknowledged by the league this year.

  1. Another guy who should bypass Vegas and get called up to Queens in September, although 40 man roster issues will most likely preclude that. He should be in the Mets Queens pitching equation at some point in 2018. Maybe our next Blevins.

  2. I like Conlon. I really do. But he is just another of the many Mets chips that I am just not sure can be successful at the major league level.

  3. I think Conlon throws like Blevins in many ways, so that may end up as his niche.

Wanted to see how Akeel Morris is doing, Mack, as you know a guy I wrote a lot about prior to his trade to Atlanta. he now has 4.2 IP with the Braves, 1 H, 1 BB, 6 K, so a nice 5 game start to his career here at the age of 24.

He always has been on the high side with walks, but what I found interesting is that after 2012, he has hit only 2 batters in 270 innings, and none in 2015-17! So his control really can't be that bad.

I have a feeling the Mets will have some bad moments with Akeel in the coming years.

    I miss Akeel.

I especially miss his family who I got to know on Facebook and Twitter.

I too think losing him will come back to bite me.

  5. Mack it's a VERY long and painful list and with Wheeler now gone what will the roster look like now. Sandy has to be very active this week as we need bodies to fill multiple positions.

Don't expect much, if anything, this week.

No one likes trading with Alderson.
