Hot Stove - 11-26-17

Korean outfield prospect, Ah-seop Son, has decided to stay home and not come stateside to play baseball in 2018. He agreed to a 4-year, $9.8 billion contract with the Lotte Giants. Oh... did I thell you that was 'won', not American dollars? It converts to around $8mil USA.

Japanese phenon, Shohei Ontani, has sent a letter to every major league team telling them what he could bring to the table if they signed him. Imagine what the Mets letter said.  "I could bring... EVERYTHING!"

Favorites for Ontani... yup... the Yanks.

Mike Puma says that the Mets might bring back Neil Walker to play second base. I'll believe this when I see it.

Two teams have made multi-year offers to relieve Bryan Shaw.

  1. For a team beset by injuries in every direction, securing the services of the DL-dwelling Walker would not seem particularly smart unless it was a one-year deal with Guillorme behind him.

  2. Reese, I can't call Walker the next Travis D'Arnaud quite yet, but he has always been healthy except for hurting his back in 2016 and an unrelated injury in 2017, from which he came back and finished strong.

  3. Reese/Texas -

I have big plans for Luis Guillorme in 2019 at this position.

Frankly, I could care who they sign in 2018. Wilmer Flores is fine there in a turnaround year.

Spend your bucks on the mound, third, and in the outfield.

  4. Mack keeps telling us the Wilkins call the shots. When it comes to Guillorme, Mack calls the shots.

  5. Using Flores makes too much sense, so instead they will bundle off limited assets to get the one year remaining of Ian Kinsler.

  6. Mack---You say you're fine with Wilmer at 2B, while spending for 3B. That combo won't work. If we spend on 3B, Cabby will be by FAR the best option at 2B.
