The LA Dodgers signed ex-Braves international prospect, RHP Guillermo Zuniga, to a $250K bonus. The New York Yankees have traded 3B Chase Headley and RHP Bryan Mitchell to San Diego for OF Jabari Blash. Tampa Bay is signing International prospect, SS Jelfry Marte, for an amount in the $800K range. Shohei Ohtani has a sprained UCL in his throwing elbow.
P Michael Pineda has signed a 2-year, $10mil deal with the Twins. The Marlins has traded Marcel Ozuna to St. Louis.
Players currently unprotected cannot be added to the 40-man no matter how many are lost, if that's your question. FA's & trade acquisitions may be added by DFA'ing as necessary.
Dodged the Ian Kinsler bullet...........even though he only has a year left on his deal, he was pricey not even counting what it would take in trade to get him (and I think his best days are behind him).
Although the Rule V geeks will all trumpet Yankees reliever Anyelo Gomez as the arm to get since he hits 100 mph occasionally, the overall results suggest another Yankee farmhand is the better bet. Lefty Nestor Cortes is 22 years old and sports a career minor league record of 25-14, 2.08 ERA, 0.996 WHIP, 4.53 K to BB ratio and 9.5 K per 9 IP. He'll get overlooked because he's more of a finesse than explosive pitcher, but guys like John Franco made long careers out of that repertoire.
Will there be an explanation of the way the Rule 5 works posted here before the draft?
ReplyDeleteWhat happens after a team loses a player?

ReplyDeleteThat's sort of my question. I thought there was a provision to protect teams from losing multiple players somehow.
ReplyDeleteOtani!!!
ReplyDeleteMy brother said he heard something about a deal to get Machado to Yankees...false rumor?

Tried that weeks ago. Doesn't answer my question, which is why I asked here.
ReplyDeleteI really can not explain it properly. Sorry.

ReplyDeleteReese, keep up the great scouring. You are our head sharecropper when it comes to trying to get other teams to share their farm talent with us.
ReplyDeleteHmmm....Shohei "Kardashian" Ohtani already has an issue with his elbow, to go along with his ankle surgery recovery?
ReplyDeleteI still get the feeling that he will underwhelm.
