Good morning.
Puckett’s Pond’s
suggested trades between the Mets and the Twins:
Mets may want: 2B, 3B, relief pitching, veteran starting
pitching, center fielder, leadoff hitter
Twins may want: A power bat for the DH position, starting
pitching, relief pitching
Trade proposals
With those needs how could the Twins and Mets match up? Here
are three ideas:
Trade proposal #1: Twins trade IF Eduardo
Escobar and OF Zack Granite to the Mets
for RHP Marcos Molina and IF Mark Vientos. Vientos was one of my favorite players
in the 2017 draft, and he can truly be a guy to jump up the system in a hurry
in 2018 as the “prize” of this deal. However, moving a quality player like
Escobar that could really solve a ton of needs for the Mets along with a guy
like Granite should bring a high quality arm as well. Molina might be a
swing-for-the-fences arm, especially paired with Vientos, but he’d be an
excellent target for the Twins.
Trade proposal #2: Twins trade LHP Tyler
Jay and RHP Jake Reed for IF Gregory Guerrero and
RHP Gerson Bautista. The Twins would be giving
up two near-ready bullpen arms for a high-ceiling young infielder and a
high-velocity young arm that’s not gotten out of A-ball thus far.

Brightline CEO Finds
Inspiration In The New York Mets And Henry Flagler Henry Flagler
-
Dave Howard's background is in sports. He ran business operations for
the company behind Madison Square Garden, and spent more than 20 years as an
executive with the New York Mets, overseeing the design and development of the
team's Citi Field.
So when he was offered the CEO job at Brightline, the
high-speed rail service set to run from West Palm Beach to Miami, Howard says
he was a little skeptical. But only briefly. He soon discovered lessons from
the business of baseball apply to the business of Brightline.
I made a proposal, in writing, to the Wilpons
to create, set-up, and manager a new web site that would combine key bloggers,
beat reporters, and direct links to the Mets organization. It was turned down,
but I did receive a telephone call from Dave with a gracious ‘thanks but no
thanks. He didn’t have to do that. He could have either ignored it or have a
secretary send off a form letter. He is a class act.
How the New York Mets can benefit
from the Miami Marlins fire sale
-
If money was no object, trading for Stanton would be a no
brainer. They could get a deal done without mortgaging the farm, and he would plug
into right field and be a lynchpin in the middle of the lineup. Since the Mets
clearly cannot afford that contract, it’s not even worth dreaming. That is not
to say that the Marlins don’t have something to offer the Mets. I’ve already
called for the Mets to make a play at Dee Gordon,
but the Marlins have even more than Gordon to entertain the Mets with.
An update on my mock drafts…
We
had OF Jarred Kelenic as the Mets pick at six, but the top lefty in the draft
has moved up nine slots -
1. (1.) RHP Brady
Singer Florida
2. (2.) SS Brice
Turang Santiago HS (CA)
3. (7.) RHP Ethan
Hankins Forsyth Central HS (GA)
4. (4.) RHP Kumar
Rocker N. Oconee HS (GA)
5. (3.) 2B Nick
Madrigal Oregon State
6. (15.) LHP Shane McClanahan USF
The 6-1 McClanahan went 15-starts,
3.20, 76-IP, 104-K ofr USF last season.
From Perfect Game –
Shane McClanahan is a 2015 LHP/ with a 6-2 165 lb. frame from
Cape Coral, FL who attends Cape Coral. McClanahan has a long lean build with
room to fill out and add strength. Short arm action to a mid 3/4 slot. Slight
pause after rocker step, stays balanced and online with delivery. Repeats
delivery well. Pitches to both sides of plate with fastball, fastball has good
life when down in zone. Has good arm speed on fastball, will slow it a bit on
developing change up with run. Slider shows tight spin and good tilt to it.
Gets good extension and creates a down hill angle to plate. There is more
velocity to come.
Plans to rehab old Negro League baseball park taking
shape –
Hamtramck hired Smith Group JJR for $76,900-plus to create a
pre-development plan as a precursor to any construction, city planners
announced Monday.
Hamtramck received a $50,000 National Parks Service African
American Civil Rights grant to offset the bulk of the cost.
Does anyone else get tired of reading the local sports pages regarding the Yankees and they just got Stanton for what?....are you kidding me? Then the next article is Boras talking about Harper and the Yanks are still an option.... wow great and even if we know Boras is looking to set up a bidding war would any of us be surprised if the Yanks landed him also. Instead as I skip to Met news its this under the heading of "The Mets need to break open the piggybank" and the first sentence is "If the Mets were any less relevant at this point they'd be the metric system" great real funny and we root for this team because why?????? Oh but lets not forget we could sign Walker or Kinsler how exciting now where do I go to get Met tickets again?
ReplyDeleteLooking at the Yankees with envy can be maddening. It's like talking to your neighbor about stocks and how he's making a fortune while your portfolio is crawling.
ReplyDeleteI'm more concerned with our division, and knowing that the Fish will be weaker helps. And if the Nats lose Harper, so much the better.
If our pitchers can only stay healthy, we'll be fine. We just need a 2Bman and some RPs.
Neither one of those are good trades for the Mets. They'd be overpays. If escobar had another year of control it would be worth discussing, but I wouldnt give up that much for that guy, when you could just pick up the money on any of kinsler, kipnis, or castro for basically less in terms of prospects. The jay deal just doesnt make much sense to me, but prospect for prospect deals are hard to understand.
ReplyDeleteIf the mets can get yelich out of miami by taking castro too, its something youd have to think about.
If Im jeter, and well im not. I would just tear the whole thing down to the studs. Move, yelich, ozuna, prado and castro. do a full houston rebuild.
You could get one of harvery/gsellman/lugo + Lagares + a tier b prospect from the mets for yelich. plus whatever the cards or giants will give you for Ozuna and you're kind of moving forward.

ReplyDeleteFirst, stop reading the rags. They will turn the cream in your morning coffee.
In this case, it is NOT fake news. The Yankees simply operate on a completely different level than the Mets. The Yanks have no problem with reinvesting some of their profits to insure they both sell out their stadium but also go to the World Series.
The Mets owner would rather count his far less profits like that boss in The Simpsons cartoon series.
Bill -
ReplyDeleteSee?
That's how Mets fans operates.
They don't excited when they secure new players.
They get excited when other teams loss them.
That's not the way I look at the big picture. I get VERY excited when we get a big addition, but I ALSO look forward to the opposition losing one.
DeleteIt's like the offense /defense argument. To me, a run saved is worth as much as one driven in.
This is why I value Lagares more than most others do.
Me?
ReplyDeleteI would put Cespedes, Conforto, Rosario, deGrom, and Syndergaard on the shelf. I would tell the Baltimore GM that they are off limits.
I would then tell their GM to pick three other players, either from the current 40-man or the affiliates, for the services of 3B Manny Machado...
IF...
that GM can delive Machado with the primise of an additional 3-5 more years on a new 'make and trade' contract.
It is not going to happen but this is my definition of a dreamer.
I share your dream, Mack. But I doubt that his agent would allow him to skip being a FA next Winter, unless we blow him away with a ridiculously huge offer.
DeleteBut we can dream, can't we?
Someone (Chris?) posted last week that a report would be forthcoming prior to the Rule 5, explaining how it works. I think there's a provision that if a team loses a player, it then can pull another player off the list, or something like that.
ReplyDeleteIs the explanation still due in the next day or two?
Bill, like many fans, have come to accept running a profitable business as a higher priority than winning games. Fortunately I (and many others) have not been similarly brainwashed. :)
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteTrue Bill
Which point are you referring to?
DeleteI definitely do NOT put any business points above winning, nor do I know ANY Mets fans who do. I have no idea where Reese gets that idea.
ReplyDeleteFred and his partner, Saul Katz, have been very successful businessmen, and I 'm sure they know that in order to turn a profit they must keep the customers happy. A winning team = higher attendance/tv ratings. I find it hard to believe that they prefer a losing team with less profit to a winner with more profit.
Anyone who does believe that is simply barking up the wrong tree.
Morni g, gents. Mets need to think big in terms of moves, or the Tanks will outed as them by 1.5 million paying customers. Cost squeeze, revenue squeeze, fan base squeeze. Our Mets, until proven otherwise.
ReplyDeleteHow about a trade for Realmuto, Yellich, Prado and Castro to mets for Gimenez,Smith, Peterson, Gsellman, Dunn and Nimmo.
ReplyDeleteTake all of Castro’s and Prados contracts back?
Zozo
Twinkies: No thanks. We already have Escobar & Granite (maybe better) in TJR and Kacz. Even if those Twins have a greater ceilingr, they're not Giminez & Vientos better. Molina & Bautista vs.T.Jay & J.Reed? A push IMO, I'll stick with my guys.
ReplyDeleteAnd Jeez, you guys who put on pinstripes to masturbate over Giancarlo... not one word should you ever utter about that D.Wright contract.
I know you’ve got to give to get (unless you’re the Yanks & seem to almost always get the upper ya d in a trade) but it seems like that proposed trade with the Twins is an obscene overpay
ReplyDeleteThose are the stupidest trade proposals I have ever heard. A utility guy solves our third base?? How so? We already have a utility guy there. And then two go-him relievers for some real talented minor league ones?
ReplyDeleteHow do you people even put this stuff on our team’s blog?
Wow...
ReplyDeleteI am now the team's blog
Congratulations?
DeleteGotta stop looking over the fence and seeing how green the outfield grass looks in the Bronx. We are not the Yankees, and never will be. If you can't accept that, you should consider a switch of allegiances. The fact is that Stanton would have rejected any trade to the Mets, just like he did to the Cards and Jints. He wanted to play for a team that has the highest probability of making it into November. Meanwhile, I am a Mets fan and I will focus on trying to put the best team we can on the field on opening day. Period, end of story.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteUnfortunately, for the Wilpons, there are many Mets followers that have made the switch or are seriously considering it.
DeleteKeep an eye on attendance and merchandise sales this coming year.
Ni to the Minny trade.
ReplyDeleteBut one I would do is Gsellman, Molina, Lindsay and Guillorme to the Fish for Ozuna and Prado plus $6.5 million.
I like Ozuna, but giving them more talent than the Yankees did for Stanton doesn't tempt me at all.
ReplyDeleteGetting back to your comments about Stanton, as far as I knpw he has no veto power over a deal, as long as it's to one of the 4 teams on his list.
The Cards and Giants weren't interested, and I don't recall who the 4th team was, but it wasn't the Mets, so we couldn't have gotten him even if we topped the Yankees offer. I was surprised he didn't have us on his approved list, since he has been so successful hitting at Citi, but it was his decision.
I'm glad he's out of our division.

ReplyDeleteIt is great to hear from you again.
