Earlier this year I opined that the Mets should look across the Pacific for some inexpensive relief pitching in this article.
Imagine my surprise to read in today's MLB Trade Rumors:
"
- The Dodgers have some interest in Japanese closer Yoshihisa Hirano, Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports tweeted recently. The 33-year-old Hirano has starred for NPB’s Orix Buffaloes for quite some time, amassing 143 saves with a 2.62 ERA, 9.4 K/9 and 2.4 BB/9 through 271 1/3 innings from 2013-17. Hirano, who will turn 34 next spring, has enough professional experience that he’s exempt from the posting system and is able to sign a Major League deal without going through the posting system. He’s also been linked to the Cardinals and Tigers this winter.
Also I had offered up the idea that the Mets should consider moving one of their expensive relief pitchers to free up some dollars here. Lo and behold I read today:
"The New York Mets have a noticeable hole at second base to address, and with few free-agent options available, the team could look to trade reliever A.J. Ramos for a second baseman, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic."
Maybe when Sandy Alderson is ready to retire (or gets fired) I should apply :)
Maybe, but you would have to work with Jeff Wilpon!
ReplyDeleteI just threw up a little in my mouth
ReplyDeleteHa!
ReplyDeleteWould GM Reese have traded for Longoria? The "big" name is an attention grabber, but I wonder if his best years are behind him? Like most big contracts, the production starts to decline right about the same time that the back loaded dollars increase.
I think the Rays did well here, to get some assets (including SF's top prospect) for a player that will be an anchor in another year or so.
I am glad that we didn't get involved in that debacle, despite the fact that he plays a position of need for us.
Now if you offered me Longoria five years ago.......
Maybe the Genius in his own mind will one day address the bigger hole at 3B.. maybe?
ReplyDeleteRemember when Fred’s forgotten son used to live in Japan & scouted players like Shinjo ?
