ADDISON REED TO THE TWINS

ADDISON REED TO THE TWINS

MLB.COM reports that "The Twins agreed to terms with reliever Addison Reed on a two-year deal worth slightly less than $17 million, a source confirmed to MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi on Saturday.  The Twins, however, have yet to announce the move, as it's pending a physical."

Question: Why, given the late season struggles of Jeurys Familia, would the Mets have not wanted to dig deeper into the pockets and spend for a proven commodity like Reed to give them a killer pen?

Seems...to use a word I use more on this site than I'd like to...cheap - and short-sighted.

  1. This hurts. If Reed wanted to return to Mets, shame on Mets for not getting this done especially at that contract.

  2. LongTimeFan1, I agree 100%.

If you feel you have excess relief pitching mid-season, then trade someone off.

  3. Unless Reed wasn’t interested in returning to such a crowded bullpen,I am disappointed in the Mets. His price was very reasonable, and he is a professional strike thrower who gets big outs without big time heat. His addition, along with the other depth on the MLB roster, would have given the Mets an elite relief corps. It’s still possible, but I suspect they will be limited by owner cheapness.

  4. Bunch of reports that he wanted to be in the Midwest above all, tough for the Mets to do much if that's the case

  5. That's right, Anon. And the reports also said that he turned down some 3-year offers to take the 2-year deal in Minny. For all we know, one of those offers could have been from the Mets.

Of course, if we did make the besy offer and he accepted it, that would mean we "overpaid", right? 😕

  6. Plus, he is probably going to close for the Twins, right? He would have been competing with Familia and Ramos here for saves, at best. I don't think this is the end of the world, nor is it a chance to take a shot at the Mets.....they earn plenty of the scorn thrown their way, but this feels like Reed doing what is best for him.

  7. We did sign Adrian Gonzalez, though!

  8. We not signing anyone who doesn't "come back" to the pack financially as looking like the smartest guy in the room trumps all....we'll see if this all works.
