MLB Pipeline - Top 30 Mets Prospects

MLB came out with their new Top 30 Prospect list for the New York Mets and it is filled with the  usual suspects

I particularly found interested the individual player ratings on various offensive and defensive skills:

Hit: 60 - Andres Gimenez

Power: 55 - Peter Alonso (Mark Vientos, David Thompson)

Run: 60 - Adrian Hernandez (Desmond Lindsay)

Arm: 65 - Ali Sanchez

Defense: 70 - Luis Guillorme

Fastball: 70 - Gerson Bautista (Jacob Rhame)

Curveball: 60 - Thomas Szapucki

Slider: 55 - David Peterson (Justin Dunn, Marcos Molina, Gerson Bautista)

Changeup: 60 - P.J. Conlon

Control: 60 - Conlon (Justin Dunn, Jordan Humphreys)

  1. Isn't the top of the scale 80. How then can Alonso be 55 on power? I think Alonso shows more like 65-70 power this year. He seems to be the premiere raw power guy in the Mets organization now, besides Cespedes and Bruce.

"No respect" Tyler Bashlor probably just missed the Top 30, but I would also think he's got a 70 FB, probably better than Rhame's.

Also, if the scale is up to 80, Sanchez seems underrated at 65 with the arm, having thrown out 50% of guys in his career.

  2. I think the supposed "lull" in our prospect pool is just a temporary blip on the radar, likely due to the extensive graduations and/or trades from our system over the past few seasons. It would not surprise me if our system is again in the top 10 in another 18 to 24 months.

A strong 2018 draft will only help matters.
