Hartford 7 - Binghamton 3

HARTFORD, CT – The Hartford Yard Goats launched a pair of home runs to defeat the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, 7-3, on Wednesday afternoon at Dunkin Donuts Park. Ryan Metzler and Garrett Hampson each went deep to send Binghamton to a loss in the rubber game.

The Yard Goats pounced on Mickey Jannis, cracking the scoreboard first in the second inning with a two-run double from Wes Rogers. Metzler added a two-run blast in the fourth before Hampson left the ballpark in the fifth with a solo homer.

Binghamton was stymied for five innings by Hartford starter Jack Wynkoff before coming alive in the sixth. The Rumble Ponies backed up Champ Stuart’s leadoff walk with three consecutive doubles, cutting Hartford’s lead to two. Jeff McNeil pelted the right-field wall to bring in two and Peter Alonso added a run-producing double down the left-field line.

With the potential tying run on base, Hartford summoned reliever Jason Garcia. The Yard Goats righty coaxed an inning-ending double play out of Jhoan Urena to end the threat.

Hartford padded their lead with two runs in the sixth against Adonis Uceta before the bullpen closed out the rubber game. Craig Schlitter carried the lead to the finish line with three scoreless innings and earned his first save of the season.

Jannis (3-1) was touched for five runs on six hits over five innings and took the loss in his 50th career start with Binghamton. The knuckleballer struck out six and walked three.

Wynkoop (2-1) allowed three runs on five hits over 5-1/3 innings to earn the win.
The Rumble Ponies (14-15) venture to Portland and open a five-game, four-day series with a doubleheader on Thursday starting at 5:00 PM.RHP Joseph Shaw takes the mound for Binghamton in the opener. 

POSTGAME NOTES: Binghamton suffered their fifth series loss and fell to 1-3 in rubber games…Mickey Jannis’ ranks 9th all-time in Binghamton history with 50 career starts…Tim Tebow entered the game as part of a double switch in the sixth inning and struck out in his only plate appearance
