Press Release:
BINGHAMTON, NY – Roberto Ramos belted a pair of home runs for the second straight night, helping Hartford to a 6-1 win over Binghamton on Friday night at NYSEG Stadium. Ramos’ two-homer effort comes in just his second Double-A game, earning the Yard Goats a sixth straight win over the Rumble Ponies.
Ramos’ big night at the dish coincided with another stellar performance by Yard Goats starting pitcher Peter Lambert. Facing the Rumble Ponies for the second time in six days, Lambert’s only mistake came against Tim Tebow in the third inning.
Trailing 1-0, Binghamton’s left fielder tied the game on the first pitch of the frame. Tebow sent Lambert’s offer over the wall in left, picking up his fifth home run of the season and tying the game at 1-1.
The tie, though, lasted mere minutes, as Ramos quickly countered Tebow’s blast with one of his own. The First baseman led off the fourth by taking Justin Dunn’s pitch and launching over the centerfield wall. The longball was Ramos’ third at Double-A in just six at bats and gave Hartford a 2-1 lead.
The flood gates opened up in Hartford’s four-run, four-hit fifth inning. Sam Hilliard provided the frame’s first run, singling home Omar Carrizales to stretch the lead to 3-1. With Brendan Rodgers batting, a wild pitch from Dunn allowed Chris Rabago to advance and score for third to make it 4-1. With Rodgers aboard, Ramos belted his second home run of the night, a towering opposite-field drive that cleared the left-center field wall.
Dunn (1-2), tossed six innings in his third Double-A start and second straight against Hartford. He coughed up six runs on seven hits, while whiffing seven Yard Goats.
Lambert (7-2), meanwhile, beat Dunn and the Ponies for the second time in six days, twirling seven innings of two-hit baseball. He struck out five without allowing a walk, and retired 15 straight Rumble Ponies after the Tebow home run.
Tyler Bashlor kept it at a five-run deficit, firing two perfect innings with four strikeouts.
