Jacob deGrom Ranked 10th on MLB Network's "Top 100 Players Right Now!"


JACOB DEGROM RANKED 10TH ON MLB NETWORK’STOP 100 PLAYERS RIGHT NOW! COUNTDOWN

February 15, 2019 – New York Mets right-handed pitcher Jacob deGrom was ranked 10th on MLB Network’s annual Top 100 Players Right Now! program last night, which ranks the best players in Major League Baseball. deGrom finished one spot ahead of the Boston Red Sox’s J.D. Martinezand one spot behind the Cleveland Indians’ José Ramírez.

Six members of the Mets were featured on MLB Network’s Top 100 Players Right Now! series this year. In addition to deGrom, Edwin Díazranked 52ndRobinson Canó ranked 54thBrandon Nimmo ranked 55thMichael Conforto ranked 60th and Noah Syndergaard ranked 79th.

Hosted by MLB Network’s Greg Amsinger, alongside Ron Darling and Mark DeRosa, the six-part series across three nights counted down the top players based on player performance over the past several seasons, with an emphasis on 2018 and projected 2019 performance. Base-running, defensive value and award finishes were all taken into account when evaluating players, including those returning from injury. Top 100 Players Right Now!featured a cumulative 219 All-Stars, 38 Gold Glove Awards, 29 World Series championships, 14 MVP Awards, 13 Cy Young Awards, seven batting championships, six #1 overall picks in the MLB Draft and three Roberto Clemente Awards.

    Kidding aside - quite a list.

    Six Mets in the top 100 is impressive - surprised that Jed Lowrie missed out.

    Amazingly, Reese's Justin Turner is as high as # 22.

  2. And Baseball's # 43 top player Luis Severino agrees to a 4 year, $40MM extension with a club option for 2023, while # 10 Jake and # 79 Thor sit and wait? This will make them a whole lot uneasier about waiting much longer for theirs.
