Mack - 2019 Mets Transactions

Sunday, April 21

-RHP Casey Coleman was activated from the injury list. He immediately returned to the AAA-Syracuse rotation and pitched four scoreless innings on Sunday, lowering his seasonal ERA to 2.25.

Monday, April 22

-The Mets activated infielder Todd Frazier off the injured list. Up unto last night, Frazier only played in rehab games for Syracuse and St. Lucie (42-AB, 2.38). His glove brought an immediate shot in the arm for the Mets

-The Mets recalled infielder Luis Guillorme from AAA-Syracuse. Luis has always hit in the minors (7-seasons, .287) and has never received a proper amount of time to show the Queens crown what he has (2-seasons, 80-AB, .188). This is probably a deep back on the bench utility move that won’t result in much time for the parent squad either. I expect as soon as Jed Lowie can return, Luis will be sent packing once again.

The Mets placed relief pitcher Justin Wilson on the 10-day IL with soreness in his left elbow. Wilson has pitched well this season out of a pen that could more numbers like these: 9-appearances, 1-1, 3.24, 8-K, 8-BB. Let’s hope that this, like Jacob deGrom’s IL stint, is precautionary.

The Mets optioned relief pitcher Paul Sewald to AAA-Syracuse. Tough break for Paul. He actually was pitching well this season, both in Syracuse (4-apps, 0.00) and the Mets (3-apps, 3.60). He’s gonna be back.

A-Columbia Mets have optioned IF Chandler Avant to Low-A-Brooklyn. Chandler always hit in College (ya know, that school that lost to my Clemson Tigers), hit half way decent last year for Brooklyn (134-AB, .246), but has hit poorly so far this season in A ball (38-AB, .105). He needs to spend more time refining his game and allow for the following ‘prospect’ to take his place on the Columbia roster…

A-Columbia Mets has promoted IF Sherveyn Newton from Rookie-Kingsport. I have Newton as one of my top 10 prospects though, as Tom Brennan has pointed out, he needs to work on his striking out (176-K, 570-AB). At 19, he’s young enough to work that out. Right now, let’s hope he brings that Kingsport bat (2018, .280) to South Carolina this season.

A+ St. Lucie placed OF Desmond Lindsay on the 10-day IL. Lindsay hit only .220 in 2017 for Columbia, .218 in 2018 for St, Lucie, and .196 so far this season repeating for St. Lucie. Do you see the pattern here? In between these sub-par results have been a handful of trips to the IL, where he’s heading again now.
