PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (April 13, 2019) – Jeremy Vasquez broke out of an early season slump to lead the St. Lucie Mets offense in an 11-1 romping of the Florida Fire Frogs on Saturday at First Data Field.
Vasquez went 3 for 3 with a home run, triple, two walks and five RBI. He reached base in all five plate appearances. The first baseman slugged the team’s first homer of the season in the second inning. The opposite field dinger put the Mets ahead 2-0.
Vasquez clubbed a bases-clearing triple in the eighth inning for the final three runs of the game. He also added a RBI single in the sixth inning.
Blake Tiberi went 2 for 3 with RBI and run. He extended his hitting streak to seven games and his multi-hit streak to six games. Tiberi is batting .438 on the season.
Mets starter Tommy Wilson picked up his first win. He did not allow an earned run over 5.2 innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out six.
Relievers Carlos Hernandez and Ryley Gilliam combined to blank the Fire Frogs over the final 3.1 innings. Neither reliever has allowed a run this season.
Todd Frazier played in his eighth rehab game. He went 1 for 3 with a RBI while playing third base for five innings.
Catcher Mitch Ghelfi went 2 for 4 and scored twice.
Quinn Brodey, Cody Bohanek and Tiberi each hit a RBI sac fly.
The Mets (6-4) and Fire Frogs (5-5) wrap up their series at First Data Field on Sunday. First pitch is set for noon.
Todd Frazier is tied for 9th best batting average for the Lucies. Can he pitch? The NY Mets need pitchers, not non-hitting hitters.
