See anybody you like here either as a starter or in a backup role?
Not a one
ReplyDeleteNOT one guy under age 31 but probably many who hit better
ReplyDeletethan "No Hit" Nido. People rave at his defense but he
couldn't even keep his throws in the IF.
A back up catcher can play half the season if the # 1 guy gets hurt. Spend on a one year deal that would be a clear upgrade over Mr. .230 OBP Tomas Nido
ReplyDeleteUninspiring list, IMO.
ReplyDeleteI agree that we could use an upgrade for our #2 catcher (and we should probably check with Thor and get
his approval, first.....kidding....mostly).
I roll with Ramos and a solid #2 that can actually hit once in a while.
Very tough to hit major league pitching when you don't play regularly. Just ask JD Davis. Travis d did not play regularly for the Mets and did not hit, went to Tampa Bay and hit more homers than Ramos in less at bats. You all are ready to ditch Nido but he will if he gets the chance to play regularly. He did it in the minors.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the answer is to go with veteran backups that have proven to be able to play well after long stretches on the bench. For catcher we also may want to go with someone who could also play first or third to get extra at bats.
ReplyDeleteJohn, I think you have rosy Mets fan glasses on with Nido - of all positions, catching is most exposed to injury - and Nido's .230 OBP is way below standard. Eric Campbell hit better than Nido in the minors, substantially, and failed in MLB.
ReplyDeleteI think Nido is a bust - and don't want to risk a failed 2020 season with him as the back up catcher.
That said, to this point, Mazeika and Sanchez are at best slightly behind Nido performance-wise.
Give Rene Rivera some fountain of youth tablets. We may need him.
