The Mets and the Carlos
Beltran situation continue to dominate the headlines.
NY
Post’s Mike Puma says it is dragging on. “According to The Post’s Mike
Puma, the Mets aren’t expected to address the newly minted manager’s status on
Wednesday, as part of the continued fallout of the Houston Astros’ cheating
saga.”
Mike
Puma also had “The Mets philosophy that could doom Carlos Beltran: A Mets
source indicated “integrity” is a buzzword within the organization that is
often preached, and Beltran’s involvement in the illegal sign-stealing may have
alienated the club’s public-relations conscious owners, Fred Wilpon and Jeff
Wilpon, to the point of no return.”
Also
per the NY Post: As the Mets gather Thursday morning in Port St. Lucie, Fla. to
rename a street outside their spring training ballpark after Mike Piazza,
all attention will be on Beltran, who MLB implicated in the Houston Astros’
sign-stealing scandal that has led to two suspensions and three firings.
NJ.com
had how WFAN’s Mike Francesa says the Mets shouldn’t fire Carlos Beltran. “I
think the Mets are handling it in a smart manner, where they’re just waiting
for the smoke to clear,” Francesa added. “Make sure because Beltran was
named — watch what happens in Boston. Make sure that Beltran isn’t implicated
by some other part of this investigation where they have to do something. Where
he was somehow involved in a way where he is brought into it. Let him be —
sounds like he’s cleared. It sounds like he was cleared by the commissioner,
but make sure that’s true. Let the smoke clear. Take a step back. Be patient.
Make sure everything is done. ... I think they’re just making sure that they
don’t want to say everything’s fine and then have a shoe drop on Beltran,”
Francesa said on 'Mike’s On. “Doesn’t sound like there’s going to be any shoe
dropping on Beltran. ... but I will be very surprised: A) anything happens to
Beltran from a baseball standpoint and B) if that’s the case, then there will
be no issue with the Mets.”
MLB.com
looked at the Middle Infield in the NL East. “The Mets have little choice but to hope
second baseman Robinson
Canó…can return to health and form in 2020. Canó had multiple leg injuries
last season, which prevented him from establishing much momentum. Now 37, he is
three years removed from his last productive season.”
Last night in the Dominican
Republic, the Aguilas
Cibaenas beat the Toros
Del Este 6-1 (box).
Carlos
Gomez went 0 for 4 with a strikeout.
Dario
Alvarez struck out the side in a scoreless inning.
In the other game, the Leones
del Escogido beat Tigres
del Licey 4-3 (box).
Cesar
Puello went 1 for 4 with a run scored and 2 strikeouts.
In Puerto Rico, Mike
Antonini gave up 2 runs on 2 hits and a walk to earn a Hold as the Cangrejeros
de Santurce beat the Indios
de Mayaguez 4-3 (box).

Beltrán is THE baseball intrigue story for today.
ReplyDeleteYes indeed Tom but I am not sure how much I could take. This mess is all Jeff's and Brodie's fault. Going for flash over substance. The best Mets Manager I saw since Gil Hodges, won the first un-shared championship in Brooklyn and was fired for his efforts.
ReplyDeleteMike Vaccaro just said this: The Mets clearly do not believe it is a moral imperative to fire Carlos Beltran in the wake of the massive sign-stealing campaign that has engulfed two major league teams and cost two managers with World Series rings their jobs.
ReplyDeleteThat is their right. They also happen to be right. It is clear that Beltran did more than simply figure out the other team’s hit-and-run signal based on the way the opposing third-base coach twitched his nose. And he happens to be a manager now.
Have you noticed that most of our active players that played Latin winter ball aren't in the lineup anymore?
ReplyDeleteMost have been sent home to rest or are already in a pre-ST camp in Port St. Piazza.
