I like trade speculation especially when it involves intra-city
rival teams such as the Mets and Yankees. I would have liked to see more trades
between the two teams throughout the years.
The reason for this trade speculation is according to sources, the Yankees have contacted the Mets about the availability of Steven Matz plus the Yankees might not have confidence in their prospects in the farm system.

The Yankees are in a
bind, because Luis Severino is out for the year which was very unfortunate,
James Paxson will be out until May and Domingo German is suspended until early
June. The starting rotation has been a problem for the Yankees in recent years.
Aside from Severino, the Yankees have not been able to develop
a front-line ace type of pitcher in their farm system like the Mets have with
Harvey, deGrom and Matz who once was known as the third best left-handed
pitcher in the National League before his health issues.
The Yankees know that Matz
has proven that he can pitch well and can handle the media pressure in New
York. Matz is the Mets best tradeable piece.
If the Mets trade him they would want a major League ready player in return such as perhaps Miguel Andujar since he has the ability to play multiple positions or an established starting pitcher with comparable value and experience.

The Mets might not really be interested especially since the
Mets ownership has been wary of trading with the Yankees. Perhaps the Yankees
might not want to part with Andujar since he can really hit or they might not
be desperate enough for a pitcher to part with Andujar.
In my opinion no deal will be made between the two teams, because
it is only just talk which it mostly has been throughout the years.
I’m sure all New York sports fans remember back in the Spring of 2018 there was brief talk of a possible trade of Jake deGrom for Gleyber Torres, who the Mets insisted on long before anyone anticipated deGrom having that incredible season, but General Manager Brian Cashman would not make Torres available and the talks came to an end.

There was talk last Winter
about Noah Syndergaard going to the Yankees for Gary Sanchez, but that did not occur.
The Mets decided to keep Noah when General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen stated
during this Winter that Noah will not be traded.
Not trading in-city is foolish if the return is good.
ReplyDeleteAlmost any other time in recent history, if the Mets could get a cheaper and healthy Andujar for a Matz, I'd jump on it. Because this Mets team historically is never overstocked with hitters.
ReplyDeleteBut now the hitting is flush - providing ABs to guys already here would be tough - who would lose ABs if Andujar came here? And if a starter got hurt early, the Mets would be compromised.
If Porcello, Wacha and Matz come out of spring training pitching like they have so far, that quality can be loaned to the pen. A great problem to have.
Yeah i would want Andujar and either Schmidt or Garcia as well for Matz. They need him and we don’t need to get rid of him. So reach for the stars or no way jose.
ReplyDeleteAndujar can't field a lick.
ReplyDeleteWhere would we play him?
Andujar duplicates J.D. Davis. All the positions he could possibly play for the Mets are more than filled.
ReplyDeleteI really don't trust the Yankees to give the Mets fair value in return in a trade.
Zozo, There is no way the Yankees would trade Andujar and either Schmidt or Garcia for Matz.
ReplyDeleteThey would trade Andujar for Matz. You have to remember that Matz also has had health issues.
Tom, I agree that the Mets were never overstocked with hitters.
