Mack – FWIW – Coronavirus Edition - Daily Thoughts 4-5

Good morning.

So far, none of my friends or family have tested positive. In fact, I don’t know anyone other than members of the Met community (John Sickels, Michael Baron, Anthony Causi) that has tested positive; however, I do live in a little bit of a bubble in rural South Carolina.

I’m curious. Have you or any of your friends, co-workers, or loved ones come down with this?

@RationalMLBFan: I understand wanting to try to play as many games in the 2020 season as possible, even if it means teams playing into October and the playoffs pushing into November; however, how late is too late that it would shorten the off-season too much and thereby compromise the 2021?

Dan Szymborski: I think December is probably too long. They can shorten spring training, after all.  I personally think spring training is already long by two weeks.

Our friend Anthony Causi continues to fight his way through. He’s stable & getting stronger every day. It’s a long road ahead but his vitals and levels are good.

MLB teams and prospective players have been informed that some of the scouting restrictions that eliminated any contacts between scouts and coaches and players have been lifted. Teams can now contact players remotely (not in person).

Teams and scouts can now do online conversations and request video from prospective draftees. But that video has to be from activities of March 27 or before. Any "new" video is prohibited for now.

The same is true for requests of data. A player can send

Rapsodo/HitTrax/Trackman data from activities from before March 27. But for now they cannot be asked for data for after that time period.

While we are sitting around wondering if the Mets will be back in 2020 and, if they don’t come back until next season, what’s that going to look like roster wise.

Let’s remember…

The following is a list of prospect types players that will be ready to come to the majors full time:

SP:      David Peterson, Harol Gonzalez, Franklyn Kilome
RP:      Ryley Gilliam, Stephen Villines, Adonis Uceta
            C:        Patrick Mazeika, Ali Sanchez
            IF:       Andres Gimenez

Just found two bottles of sanitizer that expired in 2017. This is like following a treasure map for three weeks and opening up a chest filled with Confederate dollars.

Tom Dempsey, famous for his 63 yard field goal, is another victim of coronavirus. RIP

    YOUR basement?

    Wow.

What is the next step? Does he stay in your house? Is the only exit into your upper levels?

This gives new meaning to the expression 'close to home'.

      Good question.

The Georgia governor issued a stay in place order for the entire state.

      He then opened the beaches.

Does this mean you can't get out of the ocean?

      Crazy times.

  5. Mack, it’s complicated. We’ll leave it at that.

  6. As for anyone I know who has or had the virus, it is possible my sister had it in mid- to late-February. She had a lot of the symptoms and it lasted for over two weeks. She went to a doctor who wouldn't even bother to test for corona because it was too rare in the U.S. at the time (We thought).

As for how late the season can run, one thought I had was finding 15 cities in Australia and New Zealand that could host December games. Can't get more neutral than that, and it is late spring and early summer down there in December.
