BREAKING: Steve Cohen's @Mets bid was approved by @MLB's ownership committee, all but assuring the hedge fund titan will get the team, sources say.https://t.co/HyQPrUIAco#SportsBiz // #Mets // #MLBPlayoffs // #WorldSeries pic.twitter.com/Jj4dqP734u

As Sportico 1st reported, MLB’s Ownership Committee has approved Steve Cohen to be the #Mets owner. Heard the vote was 7-1 in favor. Next to the 8-owner Executive Committee, then the full ownership group where he needs 23 votes. But this was a huge hurdle and Cohen cleared it.

Spoke w/ source this morning & am still doing a little more digging, but we could see the #Mets making more trades than big FA signings in Year 1 of the Steve Cohen regime.

Haven't heard particular names yet in terms of trade targets, but will obviously update if I do. #LGM
Rather than simply point to every top 10 free agent target going to Mets (Cohen) I'm wondering if Cohen/Alderson and a full analytics team might focus on making the tough decisions parting with some out of position fan favorites to start in 1st offseason.

To be clear (and the story does not say otherwise) this is not the final vote to approve Cohen. That vote is not yet scheduled. https://t.co/aAFxYX3TaP

I approve too.
ReplyDeleteThe tweet about trades Vs free agents is 100% speculative & NO ONE knows what Cohen wants or thinks. More on that tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteThis is round 1 7/8 yes.
Round 2 comes shortly & will probably be 8/8.
After the Series comes full, final vote & then it’s finally official!!
As John McClane famously said "Yippee-ki-yay Mother "******" Sorry hope I can post that.
