As we had yesterday on Mack’s Mets: Steve Cohen's Mets bid approved by MLB's Ownership Committee.

CBS Sports: MLB's Ownership Committee includes the owners of the Pittsburgh Pirates (Bob Nutting), Chicago White Sox (Jerry Reinsdorf), Detroit Tigers (Chris Ilitch), Cleveland (Paul Dolan), and the Mets (Fred Wilpon) -- though Wilpon likely recused himself as suggested by Scott Soshnick of Sportico, who was the first to break the news.

Deesha Thosar NY Daily News: MLB’s ownership committee voted 7-1 in favor of him taking over the team from Fred and Jeff Wilpon, according to a source. The lone no vote came from White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf.

Joel Sherman NY Post: Next up will be the eight-owner Executive Committee, followed by the full ownership group, when Cohen will need 23 of 30 votes for his $2.475 billion purchase of the Mets to go through. Since the Mets will vote for Cohen, he’ll really need just 22 of 29.

SNY.TV: Sources: MLB vote on Steve Cohen's purchase of Mets not yet scheduled. Sandy Alderson will take over as team president if Cohen is approved.

Amazing Avenue: Watching the Rays and Dodgers in the World Series through a Mets lens.  Regardless of which team wins this World Series, the Mets under Steve Cohen should seek the path that results in them looking a lot more like the Dodgers than the Rays.

Rising Apple: Mets and Yankees should have a hard-fought free agent battle this winter. Writer Tim Boyle thinks the Mets and Yanks could both go after J.T. Realmuto and Trevor Bauer.

My take?  Yogi didn’t lose the 73 World Series.

National Pastime.com:

1973

In Game Seven, the hometown A's capture their second consecutive World Championship, defeating the Mets, 5-2, when Darold Knowles, coming out of the bullpen with two outs and two on in the ninth, gets Wayne Garrett to pop out. The 31 year-old southpaw reliever, who hurls 6.1 Fall Classic innings without giving up an earned run en route to recording two saves, is the first pitcher to appear in all seven games of a World Series.

1986

After losing the first two World Series games at home, the Mets beat the Red Sox at Fenway Park, 7-1. Lenny Dykstra's first-inning home run marks the third time in history in which the Mets' leadoff hitter has homered in the initial inning of Game 3 of the Fall Classic. The feat was also accomplished by Tommy Agee (1969) and Wayne Garrett (1973).

2000

In the longest World Series game ever played, the Yankees take Game 1 of the Subway Series, thanks to Jose Vizcaino's 12th inning two-out single, defeating the Mets, 4-3, in four hours and fifty-one minutes. The victory surpasses the streak established by the Murderers' Row clubs, as the present Bronx Bombers win their 13th consecutive World Series game.

  1. Rays are now facing baseball's true Goliath. They found that out last night.

The Dodgers are a team for the Mets to emulate, IMO.

  2. I agree Tom. They get guys off the scrap heap and turn them into stars - see Justin Turner and Max Muncy. They go for the big money guys too - see Mookie Betts.
